Shabbat Shalom from the JDC-supported Hesed Nefesh social welfare center in Poltava, Ukraine! This past Shabbat, some 45 homebound Jewish seniors from Poltava, Sumy, Konotop, and Kryvyi Rih gathered virtually to light candles and sing traditional songs. “As we celebrate Shabbat with our community elderly online, we send wishes of peace and happiness to the global Jewish community and Jews of all ages,” said one of the madrichim (counselors) who led the virtual event. “Our unity is especially important now in these difficult times.”

**Uncaring ‘Social’ System** The following post conveys insights gathered from a series of firsthand accounts collected during a two-month observational research among the homeless populace of Nuuk. The narratives depict a disturbing reality where individuals are systematically devalued within the institutional apparatus. Homeless individuals report a dehumanising environment defined by strict regulations and a pervasive lack of empathy towards their basic humanity. Their collective testimonies underscore a unanimous sentiment favouring the rudimentary safety of tents over the impersonal and tortuous social welfare system. However, even this meagre respite is overshadowed by the constant threat of physical violence perpetrated by groups of unruly youths. Urgent action is imperative to address the entrenched neglect and to ensure that homeless citizens receive the compassionate care and secure shelter they are fundamentally entitled to." #NuukWelfare #Homelessness #OppressiveSystem #Oppression #Poverty Steven Arnfjord Gestur Hovgaard John Andersen Henriette Rosing Gitte Løvgren Gitte Adler Reimer Per Arnfjord

This is a concering stat and one we should all pay attention to. Community Legal centres provide critical support and advice to vulnerable and disadvantaged community members, upholding their rights and making we are living in a fair and just society, where everyone can have equal access to justice. Welfare Rights Centre is one of the few experts in social security law. And anyone who has had to access Centrelink in their life, as I have, knows how complicated it can be and how easily things can go wrong (think Robodebt). I shudder to think of a world without this vital services. Let's get behind our CLCs! #fundequaljustice
It just doesn’t add up. We receive over 11,000 calls yearly. Limited resources mean two-thirds of people contacting us either can't get through or don't receive the level of service they need to resolve their Centrelink issues. Underfunded community legal centres like ours, struggle to provide support to disadvantaged people and communities. Welfare Rights Centre needs significant government funding to provide vital legal services to NSW residents. We need government funding to meet the need.

It is painful to read the news about an 8 year old child kidnapped from her own house and brutally raped at midnight in Aluva. There are some insights into the case as it is not the first or will not be the last case to happen. There should be zero tolerance against such cases and our children should be safe wherever they are. It's time to respond and to take actions instead of reading through such news and waiting for another case to happen. I would like to mention that one person, who is a neighbour of the child. He heard the sound of a girl crying at midnight and saw that she was forcefully being dragged by a man. He found this suspicious and tried to call other neighbours who were unable to pick phone calls, since they were asleep. Therefore he waited and again went to some neighbours house and they together went to search for the child. The sincere efforts to rescue the child is to be appreciated. In the future how can we ensure that such unfortunate incidents will never happen . We human beings can never exist in this world without a support from the neighbourhood community where we are living. Therefore we have to rebuild our ecosystem such that whenever such emergencies happen in our neighbourhood everyone should know about it and that every person should have the courage to come out of their house even at midnight. If the incursion of a tresspasser was effectively dealt, without delay from the neighbours then such tragedy could have been averted. We need to build a mechanism such that spontaneity to social welfare and security becomes our most priority. #childsafety #unicefindia #companionSOS #kerala
