#SuperlistGreen2023, published last week, shows the progress Dutch supermarkets have made on environmental sustainability since 2021:
- Dutch supermarkets have become increasingly transparent and have set more ambitious targets for sustainability.
- For the first time, all supermarkets, except for Plus, report individually on the proportions of animal and plant-based proteins in their sales.
- Lidl and Albert Heijn are fully transparent about product certifications, origin, cultivation and transport methods in their sales.
While transparency is an important first step, nature and climate only profit from changes in practice. Therefore the main recommendations for practice in Superlist Green 2023 are:
- Reduce the proportion of red meat promotions in the advertising leaflets and avoid multi-buy promotions on meat.
- Ensure sustainable food choices are available in every product category, or preferably, avoid products that are not covered by any certification or procurement policy.
- Support projects that try to restore the damage caused by deforestation.

Really exciting Laurent Alexandre Sagarra and certainly imagine this will be an engaging, important discussion. Is there anyway to join the session online? 🙂 Many thanks, Banu
