Founding Director at Alam Sustainability Consultants, Coordinating Team at Indonesian Waste Platform, Environmental Coordinator at Bali Waste Platform; Board Member Sustainability at Bali Restarant Cafe Association
Thanks for the shout out Floris M. Graziosi “We cannot do it alone of course. The amazing visionary, Jane Fischer of Bali Waste Platform Waste Platform and Alam Sustainability Consultants reached out to us to partner on a national program for school water #refill #stations to address plastic pollution and access to safe drinking water. With AYR-Water, we plan to provide water refill stations to at least 100 participating schools in Indonesia in combination with a “hydration” learning program about the importance of healthy quality drinking water and staying hydrated. This way, we aim to bring back the awareness of water as a natural resource instead of something that comes out of a bottle.” Indeed, there is no time to waste. There are many financial, ESG and guest experience benefits for HoReCa ventures to convert their systems from single-use bottles in rooms and on dining tables to reusable-refillable bottles with their own logos and branding. As I stated in my presentation for Eco Tourism Bali last month, “Tourism advertisements often represent Bali as a lush tropical resort destination, however in reality, the island is in a water scarcity crisis caused by climate change, over-extraction of groundwater and the double-edged sword of rapidly increasing tourism. Water saving must become a non-negotiable bottom line for Bali’s hospitality industry, not only to boost climate resilience but to immediately mitigate economic, health and food security risks.” #SustainableTourism Break Free From Plastic
🌊 Exciting times at AYR WATER! Just wrapped up an insightful interview on our commitment to sustainability in the F&B and hospitality industry. Water is a precious resource, and we're passionate about delivering top-notch purified drinking solutions through out Indonesia. Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity. Read more about our journey and why sustainability matters. 💙 #AYRWater #sustainablehospitality #WaterInnovation Special thanks to Stijn van Leeuwen , Edo Frese Mirella Pandjaitan Pieter de Maaker Lina Ciapaite, Albert Rosenbrand and Jane Fischer 🤟

On May 15, 2024, I attended my MPU3432 Sustainable Living class at CTF2 BP2 in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), taught by Dr. Rafeah Wahi. During the session, we watched several videos showcasing environmental challenges, including one about Sungai Watch in Bali, Indonesia, where rivers were inundated with domestic waste, highlighting the issue of irresponsible disposal. However, the video also depicted a man who devised a solution by collaborating with locals to construct a dam, facilitating the removal of garbage from the river. It is a process that, though and time consuming, but they are able to clean it and it is so statisfy to watch. Another video, titled “Bank Sampah,” showcased how communities in Indonesia incentivize recycling by offering rewards such as gold for returning recyclable materials. This initiative has significantly increased participation and reduced pollution. Reflecting on these videos, I couldn't help but think of a river near my home that suffers from similar pollution issues, yet lacks a concerted effort to address them. It's disheartening to witness the lack of action, but it also serves as a reminder of the importance of collective efforts in tackling environmental challenges. I aspire to contribute to such efforts and collaborate with others to clean up our local river someday. #SungaiWatch #SustainableLiving

Circular Economy and Beyond: Underway under the Selangor Maritime Gateway initiative, is a sorting facility in collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup, that seeks to minimise waste to landfills while increasing recycling of the floating trash extracted from the Klang River. The Ocean Cleanup is also looking to deploy some 20 Malaysian-made Interceptors around the world next year, including right here on other rivers in Selangor and across Malaysia. Beyond the Interceptors, we are also looking at other solutions to further improve the Klang River. So, look out for these news! Our collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup that started in 2019, exemplifies how local actions can contribute to global outcomes. The vision is clear: to turn polluted rivers into clean, life-sustaining waterways. Catch the full discussion by CNA on our revitalisation efforts, originally aired on 9 August 2024 - (https://lnkd.in/gbgzAN8S). Thank you Melissa Goh, Boyan Slat and the team at The Ocean Cleanup. #CircularEconomy #RiverRehabilitation #Rivers #SMG #LLSB #SgKlang #KlangRiver

🚨 Waste Not, Want Not? 🚨 Imagine driving through the lush, green landscapes of Malaysia only to find piles of illegal #scheduledwaste dumped by the roadside. 😡 Not exactly the scenic route we were hoping for, kan? 🌳💔 Illegal dumping of scheduled waste has become a serious *masalah* in our beloved country. Companies trying to cut corners are taking the easy way out, choosing to **buang** this hazardous waste wherever they can get away with it. We’re talking about chemicals, electronic waste, #healthcareWaste and other toxic stuff that’s super harmful to our environment and health. 🏭⚠️ Why is this happening? Do we not have enough legal facilities to treat this scheduled waste in Malaysia? 🧐Kemonnn Malaysians, We're not going to discuss the cost anymore. Why? Because this is beyond that. The real cost is borne by our #environment and our #communities. Imagine the makcik selling nasi lemak by the road, inhaling toxic fumes without knowing it. Or the kids playing near contaminated streams. Takkan we want this for our future generations? 🌏✨ We need to step up, kawan-kawan. The world is moving towards #recycling and #recovery of scheduled waste, why not us? ♻️ So jom support #sustainable practices by supporting businesses that follow proper waste management protocols. #CenviroRecyclingandRecoverySdnBhd ada 🏭 Give a shout-out to those making a difference! 👏 Stay green and stay clean, Malaysia! 🇲🇾 Together, we can make a difference. 💪💚 #GoGreen #SayNoToIllegalDumping #LoveMalaysia #EnvironmentalAwareness #cenviro #CenviroRecyclingandRecoverySdnBhd

Garbage: Out of sight, out of mind… really? In Indonesia, about 50% of trash goes to landfills… even worse, the other 41% is openly burnt! This problem is especially serious in small cities, and even in the beautiful Bali, if you know, you know: the smell and smoke is absolutely terrible and a health hazard! 🤢 The methane gasses from the rotting landfills add up to 11k tonnes a year, equivalent to 240k tonnes of CO2! We need 4 million trees (and many years!) to sequester that amount! Waste4Change, an Indonesian social enterprise, is tackling this pressing problem by providing responsible waste management solutions. Many Indonesians live in slums or villages, and knowledge about modern waste management there is scarce. Waste4Change is doing the honest, hard work of involving the community and waste education. One of their key initiatives is their collaboration with local governments and businesses to implement waste management systems that are both efficient and sustainable. This not only helps reduce the environmental impact of waste but also creates green jobs and promotes a circular economy. When talking about sustainability and the environment, let’s give attention to all parts of the solution… not just the sexy parts in front! 💪🌎 Shoutout to Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano and Ridho Malik!
