"We close 2023 with an exclusive episode for Make Art Not War Media, focused on the life of ROBERTO PIAZZA. I discovered that he was an intimate friend of my dad and uncle shortly after meeting him, as we both hail from the same province, Santa Fe, Argentina. He mentioned that his mother was close friends with my nona, my grandmother, Carmela Bonacci. By chance, I find myself in her lands, in southern Italy, seeking origins to process my European citizenship. However, what fascinated me most about Piazza was how he could transform his tragedy into justice through art and therapy. With a group of friends, we made a video to explore the possibility of creating a series about this great artist. Among them, jose luis Nacci, Lisandro Illa, Matt Houdini, Jesus Dupaux, and Melyna Deluchi. We delve into Piazza's life from his childhood in Santa Fe, where he was a victim of abuse by his brother. Art became his salvation; immersing himself in fashion design, he managed to transcend his talent and charisma. With his famous career and surrounded by celebrities, he decided to seek justice for the trauma of his childhood. Confronting a law that disadvantaged abused minors, he entered Congress and fought for domestic abuse and minors to find the justice they deserved. Thus, the Piazza Law was born. This transformation made him an activist, a rule-breaker, and one of the most recognized designers in Argentina. In addition to using his name to found a fashion art school with multiple branches across the country, he created a non-profit organization to help victims of domestic abuse. When the law on same-sex marriage was signed in Argentina, being one of the first in the world, Piazza took the opportunity to marry his current husband and partner, Walter Vázquez. He turned this historic event into almost a happening, a conceptual art, by celebrating his marriage in a gay club in Buenos Aires with over 2,500 guests. Amidst the press crowd, friends, celebrities, and numerous politicians from different backgrounds came together under one roof. Despite presenting himself in the media with a transgressive style, he has used the media and art as tools for justice and healing, managing to save the lives of hundreds of children.
