💥Know Your Fragrance Concentrations💥 Fragrance is a unisex, generic term used for perfume. Fragrances come in many forms and are called different names but generally fall into these categories: Eau Fraîche – The most diluted version of fragrance, usually with 1% – 3% perfume oil in alcohol and water. Usually lasts for less than an hour. Cologne (Eau De Cologne) – Oldest term for perfume, used in North America for masculine scents. Light, fresh and fruity, typically composed of 2% – 4% perfume oils in alcohol and water. Tend to be used in fragrances for younger people. Usually lasts for about 2 hours. EDT (Eau De Toilette) – (Doesn't mean toilette water). A light spray composition with 5% – 15% pure perfume essence dissolved in alcohol. Usually lasts for about 3 hours. EDP (Eau De Parfum) – Historically genderless, used to describe both men’s and women’s fragrances. The best term used to describe a fragrance. Contains 15% – 20% pure perfume essence and lasts for about 5 to 8 hours. Parfum / Pure Perfume / Extrait De Parfum – A corruption of the Latin phrase per fumum (through smoke). The most concentrated and expensive of all fragrance options. Slightly oilier, perfume, or parfum, is composed of 20% – 30% pure perfume essence. A single application of perfume can last up to 24 hours. NOTE: Some concentrations may last longer than the time stated.

This blog explains the different types of fragrances and why some last longer, are more expensive, and perform better. Growing up, I always thought perfumes were designed only for women and never even wondered why. I think the misconception still exists for many as some products out there who have ‘for men’ and ‘for women’ variants released would be labeled by manufacturers as eau de cologne/toilette and eau de parfum respectively. I believe this is one of the effects of modern marketing and nothing more. In fact, men can wear as much perfume as women can wear cologne. It does not inherently make them more attractive. But as long as these words are still understood in a conversion, it doesn’t really matter. Rather, it is important that we understand some of these terms to be able to comprehend what these are for and how or when they are used. With that said, below I explain the 5 different types of fragrances. 1. Perfume With more than 20% oil concentration, you are likely to still notice your fragrance working from morning to evening. Perfumes have the highest fragrance concentration and would last the longest among all other types: usually six to eight hours. But also, perfume or parfum will demand the highest price. People with sensitive skin may do better with parfums as they have far less alcohol than other fragrance types and therefore are not as likely to dry out the skin. 2. Eau de Parfum The next highest fragrance concentration would be eau de parfum (EDP) with oil concentration between 15 to 20%. On average, you can get a solid four to five hours of your fragrance working hard. No matter what the occasion is, this fragrance type can be more reliable than others and is relatively less expensive than perfume. 3. Eau de Toilette Eau de toilette (EDT) has a fragrance concentration of between 5% to 15%. It is cheaper than the EDP and is one of the most popular types of fragrance available. It will normally last two to three hours and is considered by some as daywear (while EDP is considered nightwear). The term eau de toilette came from the French term “faire sa toilette” which means getting ready. If you wear this on a daily basis, I would suggest that you have a small container where you can bring it with you most of the time. 4. Eau de Cologne Eau de cologne (EDC) has a much lower fragrance concentration (about 2% to 4%) than the EDT with a high alcohol content, and therefore is cheaper than those above. It generally lasts for up to two hours. EDCs mostly come in bigger bottles as more of these fragrances should be worn. Originally eau de cologne is referred to a traditional recipe that used herb and citrus notes with little anchoring with base notes. 5. Eau Fraiche Eau fraiche is quite similar to EDC in that the scent will last for up to two hours. However, it has an even lower fragrance concentration of only 1% to 3%. #GenRen #PerfumeConsultant

It is Hot. A New Fragrance Trend. Or A Permanent New Balance. Fragrances Without Alcohol. Talented industry professionals have developed solid scents, layering mists, natural perfumes, biodegradable and sustainable fragrances... They have now taken on the challenge of creating an alcohol-free olfactory category. Quite a long 'bake' and a new take. Customer research confirms a universal appeal for the alcohol-free new generation. Regulation can be a firm reason behind the development as in California. The latest creation is like a skincare application backed by serious innovation. It requires a distinct formulation given the different evaporation and an overall molecule adaptation. Patents bloom with the category boom; AquaElixir, Aqua Hybrid, Aqua Scent... As for perfumes; 'J'adore Parfum d'Eau', 'Guerlain Eau Rose'... to name a few. Original and multifunctional, the new water-soluble scents are ideal for hair, body care and have a longer wear. A new perfume gesture with a different scent texture. A soft skin with a moist appearance and a 'present' fragrance. Just Lovely. To those who want more. That will do. Like a new skin, it may even change the face of the fragrance future. https://lnkd.in/e-vjGvTF #premiumbeautynews Sophie Normand #skinification Expressions Parfumées #newperfumecategory #innovation #newtechnology #watersollublealcoholfreefragrances #aqueousscents Marine IPERT #watersolubleperfumes #guerlaineaurose Cosmo International Fragrances Thomas Delmas Marie-Eugénie Bouge Takasago International Corporation Sylvain Eyraud #newperfumegesture #multifunctionalscents #regulations #perfumecomposition #patents

"How long will this fragrance last?" Is the #1 question we encounter at Scent Bar NYC. While it is important to think about fragrance oil concentration (eau de parfum, eau de toilette etc) when considering longevity below are some fragrances that stand the test of time recommended by Marie Claire. 🤔 https://lnkd.in/ecP-aKhR

In recent times lots of industry experts have been talking about perfume being more than just a fashion statement. In fact with the trend of modern perfumery, more and more persons are smelling merit in wearing fragrances that help to keep us calm and happy. In fact, I always reiterate to my customers that their perfume has the ability to do 2 things, either enhance your mood or uplift it and if it is doing neither then you need to change your fragrance. This concept will be new to most people who just repeat the same perfume they have been wearing all their lives, buy the latest Designer perfumes based on Marketing or believe that because something is expensive it is bottle worthy. These are the very people the industry Gurus need to convert. People may find this hard to believe but my customers can attest to the fact that I am not eager to sell any new customer a full bottle of perfume nor am I a fan of buying full bottles because there are so many gorgeous, well made Niche Market fragrances that contain ingredients that do alter our state of mind and fragrance maybe one of the methods used in the future to help treat depression, stress, chronic fatigue and anxiety. I know that my customers are already experimenting and experiencing these wonderful feelings of happiness from their choice of perfumes and that is why I am not a big fan of the clone market because their quality of ingredients are substandard. If you do find that Designer fragrances all have a similar DNA to them it is because they do and that is because they all copy each other’s successes because their aim is to make as much money as possible and create crowd pleasers. In order to achieve this financial goal they all use a bunch of ingredients that are inexpensive so that cost is kept at a minimum. Some of the most common ingredients used by all of them are: Ambroxan - was discovered in the 1950s as a replacement for ambergris. Long-lasting, come-hither, velvety. Some people find it salty, smooth, skin-like (it can have you sniffing your arm slightly, compulsively). Others describe it as creamy, musky of labdanum like. One of the main ingredients in Dior’s Sauvage. Amber Xtreme - of the amber perfume family is considered to be in the base category of the perfume notes. The synthetic aroma chemical with high odour impact has ambery, woody, dry perfume nuances and can last more than 168 hours on a scent strip. Calone - Likened to the clean, crispness of a cool sea breeze, Calone is a popular ingredient used in oceanic fragrances and is often noted for its uniquely floral undertones. Sometimes referred to as “watermelon ketone” perfumers have detected sweet notes reminiscent of watermelon. Dihydromyrcenol - Perfumers describe the scent of being a fresh, citrus-lime aroma with woody base notes and a metallic sweetness. Ethyl Maltol - is used to impart a sweet, caramel flavour and is present in many vanilla, candy and fruit-flavored ELs to give it an edible feel.

Why it isn’t seen but felt? I was wondering these days when everyone says we love fragrances, buying them, wearing them but is it really noticed? A very small part of our lives, enveloped with emotions and moods. It speaks volumes when you’re introduced to or interact with someone. The sense of smell is so taken for granted as compared to other senses. Smell brings in memories and anything that stays in the subconscious mind. Have you ever thought if you daily soap or lotion was devoid of any good scent, you rather prefer not using it? The experience would be enjoyable and there would be no personality to the scent you could associate with. These days I see a lot of them really anosmic to certain smells, prefer milder fragrances and tending more towards less or no smell. Certainly, some chemicals do have adverse effects especially on sensitive skin and most cosmetic products do ensure that they monitor and test these based on sensitivity and regulatory limits. When a lot of my friends ask me for perfume recommendations, I usually ask them what they really like or dislike, and what suits them, when and how often are they going to wear them, etc. Working for nearly 15 years into fragrances, where it’s deemed important but really not given the right importance. Everybody has an opinion on fragrance, but they miss that an expert who is trained and brings in a vision need to be trusted and given flexibility to create in his/her own territory. A product that has the name or brand logo, color, texture that is so highly marketed, but a fragrance call out is always missed. Promotions are based on what the product benefits are and what they claim, sadly fragrance is lost in translation and rarely gets credit. Scent innovation and demos are the real need to showcase how can it make a difference to the brand. Thought starters need to awaken the fragrance community? Are we doing enough to get credit and visibility? Or is just another enigma only felt and not talked about in a world full of clutter? Is a breakthrough needed in the way we publicize fragrances when they call out as a key driver to buy a product or just another scent that makes no sense to a brand that stands for certain values? If a brand has purpose to deliver, I’m sure a fragrance that’s most suitable to the brand will also deliver. Is testing the only way to gain confidence or a subjective and ever-dynamic fragrance comes from intuition and expertise? Familiarity breeds contempt but of course, needs modernity and uniqueness. The choice is for us to take the risk and be the first mover than just following the trend. Chanel No. 5 became a blockbuster surpassing all doubts with the overdose of aldehydes. So, what’s stopping the creativity to bloom? Anything spectacular needs time and investment to get the addictive scent that not only increases sales but creates a legacy. #importanceofsmell #scentedvision #brandvalue #marketingscents #legacy

💡 Why Your Perfume Smells ‘Off’ After a While 💡 Ever notice that some perfumes start to smell strange or ‘off’ after you’ve had them for a bit? You know, that scent that was amazing at first but, over time, loses its charm or smells different on your skin? There’s a reason for that. Here’s the deal: Most mainstream perfumes are packed with synthetic ingredients. While they may smell good out of the gate, those ingredients break down fast—especially when exposed to light, air, or heat. That breakdown totally alters the scent profile, and not in a good way. What was once a crisp, fresh fragrance turns into something flat, off, or downright unpleasant. Now, ask yourself: If you’re investing in a fragrance, shouldn’t it last? Shouldn’t it get better with time, not worse? 🔥 The Oud Desire Collection Difference 🔥 At The Oud Desire Collection, we do things differently. We use the highest-quality natural ingredients, especially our signature ingredient—oud. Unlike synthetics, oud not only smells rich and complex but ages beautifully. Over time, our fragrances evolve, getting deeper and more luxurious with every spritz. It’s like a fine wine—it just gets better. 🔑 Why This Matters: Stability & Longevity: Our fragrances are built to last. When you store them properly, you’ll notice they maintain their integrity for years. Each time you wear them, they bring the same powerful, intoxicating scent as the first time. Evolving Experience: Oud is one of the few fragrance ingredients that evolves with time. The more you wear it, the more layers you’ll uncover. It's not a one-dimensional scent—it’s a multi-sensory experience. Evolving Experience: Oud is one of the few fragrance ingredients that evolves with time. The more you wear it, the more layers you’ll uncover. It's not a one-dimensional scent—it’s a multi-sensory experience. So, if you’re tired of buying fragrances that let you down after a few months, it’s time to make the switch. Your scent should elevate your presence and get better over time, not fade into the background. 💎 Ready to experience the difference? Check out The Oud Desire Collection and see why oud is the gold standard in fragrance.
