Try the PACE framework when you prompt AI: Persona, Action, Circumstance, Examples.
It's something I made up for myself, but there are dozens of versions like PACE. PACE and others basically ask you to be more specific in your prompt/question.
Say I wanted to find some music venues in San Fran (a city I don't know well) that played folk-indie, but matched my tastes. Here's an example of what I asked with PACE:
👨🎤 Persona: You write for the music publication Pitchfork and make appearances on the NPR All Songs Considered podcast. You love folk and indie music. You travel 2 months out of the year to see shows and have a good sense of the current bands, singers, and happenings in the folk and indie music scene.
💥 Action: Give me a list of 7 music venues in San Francisco that play folk and indie music.
🌉 Circumstance: I'm visiting San Francisco to see a friend over Labor day weekend. I'd like some good venue ideas.
🦄 Examples: Here's some venues I've liked in other cities: The Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. Avondale Brewery in Birmingham, AL. The Mercury Lounge in Manhattan, New York. The Fillmore in Denver, Colorado. The Buckhead Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
Admittedly, they weren't that different from "Can you give me 7 music venues in San Francisco that have folk and indie music." But with my framework, the answers were more tailored for my taste and situation, which matched what I wanted from the venues, including more-to-the point descriptions I wanted. But this was just one example, one made-up scenario.
Try PACE out with different type of questions, see what you get!
All this said though, prompt hacks/frameworks can often feel like fairy dust — made-up enhancers. You don't need it, and the idea of them doesn't exist. But they can offer interesting results, sometimes "better" answers, if you try.
As AI educator and professor Ethan Mollick has written, just start messing with it. And like human convos, ask a follow up to get a more interesting answer:
"The best way to use AI systems is not to craft the perfect prompt, but rather to use it interactively. Try asking for something. Then ask the AI to modify or adjust its output. Work with the AI, rather than trying to issue a single command that does everything you want. The more you experiment, the better off you are. Just use the AI a lot, and it will make a big difference "
