We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the AMULET 11_AUTO_PBC_FRA-TS project, a collaborative effort between PolymerOn Ltd. and QDevelopment Ltd. Our objective to develop fire-resistant battery casings using composite materials has seen significant progress. We are proud to report that the project has yielded flame-retarded composites with a V-0 self-extinguishing UL-94 rate, maintaining mechanical properties and glass transition temperature. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101005435. Solid state recycling of aluminium chips can be achieved by various technologies. The success of the recycling process must be evaluated by the mechanical properties of the product. Consolidation by hot extrusion is a very promising method delivering very good mechanical properties for correct settings of the extrusion and homogenization processes. It was a great experience to discuss our first insights and the overall project idea of the DILAPRO Project at MAMC. I am convinced that DILAPRO has the potential to decrease the environment impact of additive manufacturing, by e.g. reducing the need for certification coupons printed in each build.

Made in Utah! ⬇️A big shout out to IsoTruss, Inc., a 2023 award winner, who provided this composites masterpiece ⬇️ As they say "The JEC podium came about as any composite does - as a collaboration!" Working together, JEC and IsoTruss designed and built a podium to represent the joining of materials and ideas. The podium features three composite IsoTruss sections, each 6cm in diameter. The IsoTruss geometry takes advantage of the unique non-isotropic material properties of composite materials by aligning the fibers in the direction of axial, transverse, shear, and torsion forces. The three IsoTruss sections weigh less than half a kilogram together, but each piece can withstand a 33kN axial load, a property that is only made possible by composite materials! The base and top, also composed of resin, are hexagonal, as a nod to the chemical structure of carbon. The composite podium is painted white to acknowledge the many possible fibers in the composite world including carbon, glass, natural fibers, and more.
