Hello all, SJC Capital Partners here. Today was very volatile in the S&P markets. We saw the market rise to 5601 before falling to close at 5470. We entered positions from 5540 to 5590, but held off adding new ones as the market dropped in the afternoon. We also have put positions for downside protection, which were profitable today. Tomorrow’s Amazon and Apple earnings, along with non-farm payrolls, will likely move the markets. We’ll scale into new positions if the market rises. Enjoy your evening. Berkshire Hathaway’s Q2 FY24 financial performance, emphasizing its diversified revenue streams, segment profits, and a net profit of US$30.3 billion. Berkshire Hathaway maintains a leading position in terms of total cash on hand among major corporations, with $277 billion, significantly outpacing Microsoft’s $76 billion and Amazon’s $72 billion. Mr. Warren Buffett, the proprietor of Berkshire Hathaway, strategically sold 49% of their Apple shares and is currently holding the most cash and depositing it in the bank for earning 5% to mitigate risks while awaiting more favorable investment opportunities. This approach highlights the principle that, in the current market conditions, cash is king.

A pleasure to join Yahoo Finance earlier today. As the earnings season kicked off we are optimistic that plenty of companies will beat expectations and deliver the earnings endurance we are looking for. We also discussed why we will be looking at the bank lending survey to see how willing companies are to borrow at cheaper rates to invest, innovate and boost shareholder value. So, in spite of the short term uncertainty there are plenty of reasons to remain invested to capture the medium and long term opportunities. Lots of the recent rotation seems due to position squaring ahead of the elections rather than changes in fundamentals.

They say “When everyone else is bearish, be bullish.” Sounds good in theory. But when economic storms hit, SMBs face tough choices. Cut costs and downsize, or take bold steps to capture market share? One manufacturing company went “bullish” during the 2009 recession. By increasing sales efforts and overhead, they landed a major contract. But with traditional credit lines pulled, they needed an alternative solution. Here’s what happened: https://lnkd.in/ey6AcS4H #SMBFinance #EconomicResilience #AlternativeFinancing

The chart below was featured in our new piece, "Excessive Extrapolation & Stock Based Compensation" ↓ https://loom.ly/no5HtNY It illustrates that trailing 10-Year Stock Based Compensation has exploded from $0.7 trillion to $1.8 trillion within the last decade. We believe that this explosion in stock-based pay is creating a hidden crisis in personal finance. Many FAs are reporting a worrying trend: employees holding large amounts of company stock, often in overvalued firms - and a reluctance to sell compounds concentration risk. However, shifting to popular tech #stocks or index funds isn't an optimal solution. Today, these options suffer from extreme valuations & concentration risks reminiscent of the #dotcom bubble. Prick Free Financial Advice Enjoy your life! Spend and Invest your way! Mutual funds provided thru Sterling Mutuals Inc
One massive mistake that many investors make is comparing their investments to the wrong damn benchmark. Just because you've got yourself a sweet and diverse global portfolio, it doesn't mean you should be measuring it against the almighty S&P 500 benchmark. Nope, not even close. Comparing apples to oranges is like putting a flip flop next to a stiletto. They might both cover your feet, but they serve completely different purposes. Your global equity portfolio is in a whole different league, with investments spanning across different markets and countries. So why would you use the S&P 500 as your benchmark? It just does not make sense. Don't you dare overshadow the uniqueness and potential of your portfolio against something it is not?

Q3 is now in the books and on to Q4. It's hard to believe that we're in the final stretch of 2024! The S&P 500 (price only) is up 20% YTD – the strongest start to a year for the equity market since 1997. CIO Larry Adam's team remains cautions in the near-term, with equity performance expected to moderate. See more market-moving headlines in Up & Adam.
