Today and ANY day, ask yourself: ♥️ What are you doing to encourage diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion in your personal and professional life? Do your actions match your words? 🧡 How can you help create space and then support diverse voices and faces in making use of that space? When is the last time you used your platform or network to uplift diverse voices? 💚 In what ways are you currently benefitting from the same societal, social, or professional structures that are harming others? What are you going to DO about that? #juneteenth #diversity #deai

Today April 16 is #DCEmancipationDay. On April 16, 1862, slavery was abolished in Washington DC - our nation’s capital built by enslaved Black laborers We at Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs honor the courage and struggle of those who fought to end slavery in DC and across the nation Today in 2024 the fight for #racialjustice continues. The Access to Justice initiative has long provided free #legalservices to low-income families on housing, education, disability, employment, immigration and #publicbenefits matters. In 2024 this initiative is facing steep cuts, jeopardizing the safety and stability of families and communities. Join us on calling on lawmakers to restore funding for this critical initiative: https://lnkd.in/gxrqkX9d
April 16 marks the abolition of slavery in Washington DC. "The Black people of the District of Columbia have been systematically robbed. While we celebrate the District as the thriving metropolis it is today, it is also marked by profound racial disparities that have stolen Black wealth, power, labor, and lives. In the words of one Ward 7 resident, the District is a 'Tale of Two Cities.'" Joanne Lin, Executive Director, testifying before the DC Council in support of reparations. Today we celebrate Juneteenth, marking the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and proclaimed freedom for all enslaved people in the state. This momentous occasion is a reminder of progress, but it also highlights the ongoing struggles with heirs’ property laws that continue to impact Black landownership and economic stability. Over a century later, Black Americans still face discrimination in the application of their property rights. The heirs’ property system remains a significant barrier, preventing families from building intergenerational wealth and accessing essential resources. Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) has been at the forefront of this fight for justice, working tirelessly to address these inequities and support affected communities. As we honor Juneteenth, let’s also commit to advocating for change to secure property rights for all. Government and business leaders must work together to address these inequities and support resilient communities. Learn more about our efforts and join us in this important work. All Americans deserve to live in communities where they can thrive and flourish. For decades, Black Americans have been impacted by redlining, a practice that deemed predominantly Black areas to be a poor financial risk. Reversing the effects of these racist practices is the cornerstone of the Blacklining Foundation's work. It is vital to health of our communities as a whole to invest in these areas, increase Black home ownership, and close the racial wealth gap.

This book is bound to be a success
One of my favorite parts of serving as Marguerite Casey Foundation's president and CEO is working with an outstanding board of directors, including the one and only Stacey Abrams. I had the honor and pleasure of spending time with Stacey last month celebrating her latest book “Rogue Justice” with a packed house of fans and supporters. “Rogue Justice” is a riveting political thriller grappling with real-world issues we can’t ignore. If you haven’t read it, I urge you to get a copy today, or ask your library to do so! Congratulations, Stacey, on your latest masterpiece, and thank you so much for all you do for MCF on our board of directors! H/t to the First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for hosting this event, and to Bookmarks for sponsoring this event with support from Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.

Award Winning Community Builder Specializing in Workforce Development. Speaker | Trainer | Facilitator | Connector
Reflecting on the impact of genuine connections – I didn't know EBJ through her work; I knew her through her interactions with me personally, and how she treated people. That's what truly earned my trust in her work. It's a reminder that character holds immense value beyond professional realms. Similarly, our character, the essence of who we are, shapes every facet of our lives. It's the foundation upon which trust, respect, and meaningful connections are built. #CharacterMatters #TrustBeyondWork #PartnershipManager #RelationshipManager
Today, we mourn the passing of Former Congressional Black Caucus member and Texas Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson. Serving since 1993, she was the first nurse elected to U.S. Congress and a tireless advocate for justice, equality, and the well-being of all Americans. #CBCF extends our condolences to her family, friends, and constituents during this time. 💐🤍

On this Juneteenth, we celebrate the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865, finally ensuring that all enslaved people were free. But freedom didn’t mean an end to struggle. For over a century, Black Americans continued to face dehumanization and oppression through poverty, Black Codes and Jim Crow laws, and constitutional denials of basic human rights. Today, Black Americans continue to endure systemic challenges, including food insecurity, with 1 in 2 Black households in Massachusetts facing hunger on a regular basis. As Malik Yakini, the founder of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network puts it, “We’ve understood from the beginning that we can’t solve this problem in isolation, but the struggle for food justice and for everyone to have access to high-quality food has to be paired with the problem to eliminate poverty.” Yakini points to systemic racism as the root cause of inequities across education, criminal justice, wealth, health, and food access. Let's honor Juneteenth by advocating for equitable access to nutritious food and working together to create a hunger-free future for all.

Today, CRG had the incredible opportunity to be at the heart of democracy – the Georgia Capitol. We sat in on the House of Representatives floor session and engaged in insightful discussions at the Public Safety and Homeland Security committee meetings. 🏛️✨ Our presence matters, and as young Black folx, we are not just the future, but active contributors to shaping it.
