A gray background with white text as the header, “Tips for Interactive Process”. Every deaf student is unique and has their own accommodations that will be needed. So those accommodations request will vary. And a student might not actually know what they're needing at that point in time. They might not be familiar with the different options and resources available to them. So it's important to be flexible and to provide those options for the students, to give them examples of the different accommodations available, or to maybe have them test them out and see which ones are most effective and work best for them." Navigating the educational landscape for #deaf children under the IDEA and LRE Acts reveals critical challenges. The IDEA Act's insistence on proving developmental and intellectual inferiority restricts deaf children from attending deaf schools. The LRE Act aims for #inclusivity but often results in deaf students being isolated in mainstream classrooms, limiting their exposure to #deafculture. This threatens the freedom of choice and impedes their ability to thrive in the Deaf world. As someone who benefited from a mainstream #education, I acknowledge its suitability for some but recognize the #diversity of experiences for deaf children. I stand in solidarity with the Deaf community, advocating for options like multi-modal language environments with deaf educators. While not every deaf child needs a deaf school, the crucial point is granting them the choice and dismantling barriers that hinder this option.

20 questions that service providers have about serving Deaf clients/ customers: 20. What training can our staff receive to better serve Deaf clients? The 20th and final question.... and I'm so glad you asked! First, I want to acknowledge the training that is provided by state Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing offices. I encourage you to check out your local office. Second, I want to thank local community sign language teachers. They are at Deaf Schools, Community College, Churches with Deaf programs, and online all over the world! My real excitement, on the other hand, is the business I am working to create that will do this exact thing! You can follow me in Linked In, Instagram, and Facebook for updates. I will be providing a FREE one-hour webinar on Thursday November 2 at 1pm Eastern to teach service providers how to best serve the Deaf world! My membership community will also be starting in November! Learn from my 8+ years as a hearing service provider in the Deaf World, and be encouraged by others doing the same thing. Follow Agape Pah on Instagram or Facebook to be the first to know the details as they become available. #accessibility #training #Deaf #community #inclusion

"C-A-U", as signed by Members and staff, is proud to recognize the World Federation of the Deaf International Day of Sign Languages. One of the main goals of this advocacy organization is “the preservation of sign languages and Deaf culture as pre-requisites to the realization of the human rights of deaf people.” It’s an ambitious goal, and one we admire. The far-reaching impact of effective communication extends well beyond the Deaf community: behaviors sometimes associated with autism and other developmental disabilities, including anxiety, aggression, and tantrums, often stem from difficulties in establishing connections with others. Through signing, we have the opportunity to stimulate verbal skills. Teaching sign language alongside speech doesn't interfere with verbal development - it can actually speed it up, which we think is pretty incredible. #WFD #IWDP #IDSL #cauadvantage #humanrights

Around 10 million adults are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, yet only 150,000 people can use British Sign Language in the UK. From September 2025, we’re introducing a GCSE in British Sign Language to help resolve this. As well as learning how to effectively communicate using BSL, the GCSE will also give deaf and hearing students an understanding of the rich history and culture of sign language in the UK. I can’t wait for this qualification to be taught in classrooms and see the benefits ripple out into the wider community. Whether it’s improving inclusivity in the workplace, overcoming barriers to employment or creating a more tolerant society, I know this is going to have a fantastic impact. #BritishSignLanguageWeek #BSLWeek #SignLanguage #Inclusion #Education

https://lnkd.in/gi2vcN6d “…The current system is not an inclusive bilingual system. Families do not have real choice. For the majority of families they have the choice of enrolling their child in the mainstream with varying levels of ‘support’ or if they are lucky they can enroll in a Provision. However the levels of access in both settings vary widely from place to place. In mainstream settings, deaf learners are not supported fulltime and in the provisions deaf children are often met with teachers, who although are well meaning, they are not fluent in NZSL…” #DeafEducationNZ #DeafKidsDeserveBetter #NZSL #BilingualEducation #TimeIsNow #DeafEducation #parentsOfDeafKids

This week is Deaf Awareness Week (6-12 May). At Treloar School, we have been thinking about the importance of including everyone and how we can make sure Deaf people have equal access to communication. Students have been watching this great video from the National Deaf Children’s Society to learn top deaf awareness tips: https://lnkd.in/grJdwhjQ In our Friday assembly, we shared some of our favourite tips and even learned a few BSL signs! Students said they had learned about the importance of getting a Deaf person’s attention before talking to them and making sure you are facing each other. They also said it is really important to find out how a Deaf person likes to communicate – something that is also really important for many students at Treloar School who use different ways of communicating. Our overall favourite communication tip was to be patient and don’t give up! #DeafAwarenessWeek #Inclusion #SignLanguage #Communication #Education

AVID Language publishes inclusive books for children with (and without) hearing loss. All our authors are either deaf themselves, are the parent of a deaf child and/or are professionals working with deaf children. We each have a very personal reason for writing the books that we do but we all share the belief that deaf children deserve the same chance in life as their typically hearing peers. Every day, we see for ourselves how representation in books really matters to all our children, and we hear from fellow parents how much it means to their children to see their own experiences reflected back at them through books (whether or not they have hearing loss). We also know that books can play such an important role in fostering an understanding of differences which we believe is so important because, at the end of the day, the only thing that we all have in common is that we are all different. All our books are available on #Amazon.
