Q: What does access to quality education for children mean? A: Access to quality education for children means access to school lunches, to qualifed teachers, to the national curriculum, and to national exams. When children get access to quality education, they get access to all other life-changing benefits that come with it. That is why we are hard at work to ensure children growing up in poverty or conflict-affected areas are in education so that they too can acquire the basic skills they need to thrive later in life. #fundeducation #forALLchildren

Here's a short, VERY inspiring video, just in time to remind us of how great it feels to express gratitude and to receive it. (If you don't already know about the Jeremiah Program, I encourage you to learn more!)
For the past 25 years, hundreds of JP moms have earned their college degrees, and their children have been set up for long-term success with quality early childhood education. Help us continue the movement to disrupt generational poverty so no mother has to make the untenable choice between investing in herself or supporting her children. On September 30th, we recognize and reflect upon the brutal legacy of the residential school system in Canada and understand this tragic history for what it truly is - intentional and systemic cultural genocide. On this day, we honor survivors, and pay our respects to the thousands of children that never returned home. The impacts of this dark history did not cease with the closure of the last residential school in 1996. To this day, Indigenous communities continue to be impacted by over-representation in child welfare and justice systems, disproportionate rates of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender-Diverse People, the continued occupation of stolen land, acts of environmental racism, and the ongoing effects of intergenerational trauma. It is important that we take time to pause and reflect on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our work cannot stop there. At Phoenix, we are on a journey to learn and unlearn, and we do that work with humility. For those of us who are settlers, we must engage in opportunities for listening, critical reflection, and taking action towards reconciliation on a continuous basis. 🔸Ways to Take Action🔸 ✔️Challenge colonial structures and center Indigenous voices and leadership in workplaces and institutions. ✔️Contact your elected officials and ask that they enact the 94 Calls to Action. ✔️Follow Indigenous content creators and share Indigenous content. ✔️Support Indigenous-owned businesses. ✔️Donate to / volunteer with Indigenous organizations and initiatives. ✔️Stop asking Indigenous folks for their emotional labour and engage in opportunities to educate yourself. #truthandreconciliation #searchthelandfill #nationaldayoftruthandreconciliation #MMIWG2S #mikmaki #settlerstakeaction

Learning for Justice is a community education program of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that cultivates and nurtures dialogue, learning, reflection and action from those most proximate to and impacted by injustices in the South. By centering learning to inform action for liberation and justice, LFJ will complement the SPLC’s work to increase power and capacity for multiracial, inclusive democracy. As LFJ repositions itself to be more responsive to the communities we serve in our Deep South states, our resources and strategies focused on building capacity in the South will also support the national movement for racial justice and equality. In our work with community members, we recognize educators as being in communities. We invite educators to remain a vital part of the larger dialogue and learning, which is critical to building a more inclusive democracy.
