Busier skies and capacity shortfalls resulted in a 41% rise in Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) delays, caused by a combination of factors. Has anyone else waited for a delayed flight and wondering why they are stuck in an airport. I do not have an easy answer but Eurocontrol's recent review of the summer network performance provides interesting insights that may help the industry address the complex issues that come together and impact flights and ultimately the passenger. Very interesting webinar for all my airport operations colleagues on the value of accurate punctuality data to improve resource management, efficiency, passenger experience and sustainability.

I quite often fear that lack of understanding among air transport stakeholders about how CDM philosophy can help ensure the economic sustainability of air transport, will ultimately lead decision-makers to give up before they have even learned CDM, properly ! No, CDM will not increase your airport capacity, nor you should look at CDM and A-CDM as synonyms ! CDM is a generic philosophy, while A-CDM is an airport operational concept designed by Eurocontrol for a specific purpose - facilitate integration of European airports to ATFCM Service. After Air Navigation Service Providers, Airport Operators and Airlines have done all they can possibly do, to increase airspace/airport combined capacity, Airlines may wish to eliminate useless fuel consumption and Passengers may wish not to pay to be stuck on takeoff cues or en-route holdings. That´s when they will all regret to have bought an "A-CDM software" (whatever that is), instead of learning what CDM concept really is !
