There are tons of startup ecosystems and communities for venture backed companies to bridge investors with entrepreneurs with vendors and partners and markets and such. This ecosystem churns and moves on. There aren’t enough ecosystems for profitable, free cash flowing small businesses to bridge debt capital with vendors with potential customers with buyers and more. This ecosystem would not churn but sustain and root deeper every business cycle. There is Tugboat Institute but that’s for some pretty serious scale, esp. considering CPG metrics with the highest I know there at $50B. There needs to be a way. A place! I have encountered stories with a similar mission like Awanas. Startups whose mission is to enhance companies through local talent, a desire to support that talent, and the challenges of financing. The struggles of raising capital, dealing with a part-time founder, and building out sales—are the lessons that could reshape your entrepreneurial journey. Here I am summarizing this in 3 primary challenges and suggesting approaches to address them: Co-Founding and Equity Challenges - Make sure the relationship with your co-founder is clear and according to the role they will perform within their other commitments. Investment vs. Revenue: Chicken or egg? - If you’re building a marketplace, remember that marketplaces are hard places to raise capital. The Business Model Issue - Make sure to dig deeper into your why and pitch it accordingly. - Understand your revenue system and use subcontractors to help you reduce burdens. - Have appropriate contracts with all the parties involved.
