Any viral post on X now almost certainly includes A.I.-generated replies, from summaries of the original post to reactions written in ChatGPT’s bland Wikipedia-voice, all to farm for follows. Instagram is filling up with A.I.-generated models, Spotify with A.I.-generated songs. Top Google search results are now often A.I.-generated images or articles. Major media outlets like Sports Illustrated have been creating A.I.-generated articles attributed to equally fake author profiles. Marketers who sell search engine optimization methods openly brag about using A.I. to create thousands of spammed articles to steal traffic from competitors.

Is it just me or does anyone feel that the magic of AI is addictive? Mesmerizing. Magical. That it makes me feel powerful like I can get a 1000x more done in a fraction of the time. But are we leaving quality in the dust? Trading quantity for quality. Quality is really hard right? Still up to us? (Doesn’t the art being churned out by Dalle and Midjourney look the same?). It was fairly obvious to everyone that Google's GTM and deployment of AI tooling is a reaction and race to be first. First isn't always best though, look at Blackberry, Myspace... Interesting about Google+ though. Maybe 7 years ago, I believed that Google would look to buy Twitter and get into social that way - integrating Twitter/X into SERPs and the ecosystem more than they already have. #GoogleAI #AIOverviews #AI #Google

I wouldn't exactly say, I am happy that these AI models are causing issues over multiple layers of privacy, copyright, human rights, and ethics. But, I am rather glad that these are being brought to the limelight, and that comes as a harsh reminder to the "builders" to build AI responsibly. It is given that without having industry standards or government policies, it is a challenge to know what is right and not, or how to really "evaluate" your models. However, putting together a team to work on these guidelines is crucial. If your organization doesn't have the bandwidth to do it yourself, there are research institutes like Responsible AI Institute, The Algorithmic Justice League, The Alan Turing Institute, and The Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR) that I am aware of, which provide AI Ethics guidelines. Do you know of any other frameworks that can be close enough to be an industry standard?
Deepfakes are taking over the world! 🙁 What is a Deepfake? Deepfakes are digitally synthesize images, audio or even video that is created with a purpose of manipulating one's image with another. Deepfake is a combination of "Deep Learning" and "Fake". While earlier, this required sophisticated photo/video editing skills, with the rise of Generative AI and Image generation this can now be achieved with a simple prompt! Till date, there is no law that bans the creation of Deepfakes. While there are AI regulation and safety standards used by large social media platforms, this is often not enough. A classic example is the recent news around Taylor Swift Deepfake images doing the rounds on X. As articulated in the TechCrunch article, this incident could be completely prevented by implementing better visibility into user reporting and providing live communications to customer support cases on privacy infringement. Instead the platform resorted to completely banning the search term "Taylor Swift" which was as mentioned in the article - "Applying scotch tape to a burst pipe" 😅 Besides investing in building Trust and Safety processes and hiring experts in the field of responsible AI, what do you think are some of the regulatory and technological approaches that can be used to prevent this? I'm currently taking a course on utilizing ChatGPT and AI for recruiting, and today, we dove into third-party AI tools. One tool we explored is Replai (https://replai.so/), which auto-replies to social media with comments. As the instructor demonstrated it on LinkedIn, some of the comments and hashtags generated were quite amusing! While it's an interesting concept, I don't recommend just yet until some improvements are made. #AI #SocialMedia #Innovation #AItools
