Managing Director ➤ Insurance | Risk Management Solutions for Commercial Real Estate Owners & Solar Contractors
Is there a fast and easy way to identify which job applicants, particularly for high-risk solar panel installation, are more likely to exhibit undesirable behaviors in the hiring process? Good news: There is. It’s called “integrity testing,” an online behavioral survey assessing honesty, trustworthiness, and dependability—crucial traits for solar panel installers who often work independently and at heights. Placing a test at the start of the hiring process helps you avoid: ✖️ Hiring an applicant who later fails a test, crucial in high-safety jobs. ✖️ Being discriminatory and not applying the test equally. The results we obtained from Safer Hire (one of the integrity testing firms that we recommend) are quite impressive for solar industry employers: ✅ Reduces the frequency and severity of workers’ comp claims. ✅ Increases the quality of employees hired, crucial in technical and high-risk jobs. ✅ Decreases employee turnover. ✅ Especially terminations due to safety violations. → The average return on investment for solar companies is significant!🤑 #Solarcontractors #solar #solarinstallation #solarpower #renewables Milestone Risk Management

Recruiting in Renewable Energy, we speak with candidates all over the country on a daily basis. It brings some interesting insights into where the industry currently stands. What has become more and more apparent over the past 12-18 months and particularly coming into 2024 is the amount of skilled people wanting to cross train and who now see their future in renewables. Particularly Engineers. We've been speaking with Heating Engineers, Electricians, Plumbers and many other trades for over 10 years (collectively). We used to speak to Heating Engineers and they'd say they didn't see the future in Heat Pumps. We'd speak to Electricians who had dabbled in Solar when the tarriff's were high but had gone back to 'standard' Electrical work after. Now we speak to Heating Engineers who genuinely can't wait to upskill on Heat Pumps, Electrician's training up on Solar PV & EV Charging and many more similar conversations. A cynical person may think they are just going where the money is... perhaps that is the case for some. From the conversations we've had, people are excited to move towards renewables as its a new challenge, others are conscious that the job they do on a day to day basis will have a positive impact on our future. Its great for companies working in the industry as their business can grow. It can only be a better thing for past, present and future customers as there will be even more qualified individuals specialising in installing, servicing, maintaining and repairing green energy systems. Its great for us recruiters as our candidate pool grows. But regardless of us and our jobs... it can only be a good thing for Renewable Energy industry as a whole! The future is bright! #renewableenergy #renewables #recruitment #recruiting #heatpumps #solar #EV

🚨 Attention Fellow Recruiters in the Renewable Energy Industry 🚨 Lately, I’ve encountered a growing challenge during the hiring process that I believe is worth sharing with my renewable recruitment community.. I’ve come across several applicants listing false experience on their resumes, specifically stating they have worked at certain solar farms or with particular employers. Upon conducting reference checks, I’ve discovered that referees are often friends of the applicant, providing inaccurate or dishonest references to support these claims. To address this issue, when I’m unsatisfied with the referees listed on the resume, I’ve started cross-referencing project records with trusted HR managers from companies I know, simply to confirm, “Did this person really work for you?” rather than conducting a full reference check. I’m also happy to extend this approach to others—if a candidate claims to have worked with Solmech, feel free to reach out to me for a quick verification. This small step can help us all maintain the integrity of our recruitment processes. I’m keen to hear how others in the industry are tackling this issue. Have you encountered similar challenges?
