Dentons Delany facilitated a collaboration between Seven Seas Water Group (SSW), and the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) on the signing of a 12-year Build-Own-Operate-Transfer agreement for the construction of two new seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants. These plants will be strategically located adjacent to the existing facilities at Ffryes Beach and Ivan Rodrigues, utilizing some of the existing infrastructure. Implementation of the new plants will occur in two phases, with Ffryes Beach expected to commence water production within seven months of signing the agreement, and Ivan Rodrigues eighteen months later. This new venture will not only address the need to meet the increasing water demand, and expansion of water production sources. But also, significantly contributes to expanding and improving the local water infrastructure, combining a total of three million imperial gallons of daily drinking water production capacity to the people of Antigua. Marking a crucial enhancement of increased production capacity to meet the growing demand spurred by increased tourism, cruise ship arrivals, and economic activity on the island. Progressing this collaboration ensures a quick, reliable, and cost-effective water production source, fostering a strong, local, long-term partnership. The level of energy these guys have…👏👏👏 Congratulations to one of the most dedicated team working relentlessly on making Danube navigable all year round! 🟢 In the CEF Committee yesterday, in Bruxelles, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure secured #eufunding for one of its most important inland navigation projects, FAST Danube 2. ⛴️🇪🇺 🟢🇷🇴 For Romania, the project is of crucial importance from a strategic point of view, aiming at unblocking the traffic on the lower Danube, implicitly the decongestion of road traffic of goods and reduction of time and costs for the transport of goods. At the same time, the project will have a major impact on the port of Constanța traffic flows and will increase its importance in the south-eastern region of Europe. 🟢 💡 In quantifiable terms, the project will ensures navigability on the #Danube for a period of 340 days/year, compared to the current situation, of 280 days/year. 🟢 The following works are proposed: 👉 Dredging works in 12 critical locations 👉 Bank stabilization in 3 locations 👉 Dikes to limit the movement of sediments, in 3 critical locations (Belene, Bechet, Popina) 👉 Chevrons to modify the hydraulic flow and the sedimentary response of the river, in 3 critical locations (Belene, Bechet, Popina) 👉 Islands to modify the hydraulic flow and sedimentary response of the river along the targeted sector. 🟢🇪🇺 In European terms, the project ensures the completion of the #RhineDanube corridor in the inland navigation sector, contributing to ensuring reliable and safe navigation conditions on approximately 14% of the Rhine-Danube corridor. 🌍 CERIS Takes the Lead in Developing a Strategic Roadmap for Coastal Sand Extraction in São Tomé and Príncipe! 🌊 We're excited to share that CERIS, with the backing of the World Bank, is co-leading a groundbreaking initiative to tackle the unsustainable extraction of coastal sand in São Tomé and Príncipe. Professor Jorge De Brito from CERIS is at the forefront of crafting the "Basic Roadmap for Minimizing Coastal Sand Extraction." 📉✨ The challenge of sand extraction is a global issue, but São Tomé and Príncipe faces unique difficulties due to its remote location. Importing sand is costly and complicated, leading to informal mining on local beaches. This practice not only heightens the risk of flooding but also damages crucial tourism assets and local biodiversity. 🏝️🔍 Our new roadmap aims to address these pressing issues by implementing a strategic framework that promotes sustainable sand extraction and the use of higher-quality construction materials. Key elements include: Legal and institutional reforms ⚖️ Market policy adjustments 📈 Private sector capacity enhancements 🏗️ Additionally, the roadmap stresses the importance of detailed technical studies to ensure that operations like marine dredging are both sustainable and minimally impactful. 🌱🔬 This initiative represents a significant step towards safeguarding São Tomé and Príncipe's coastal areas, supporting economic development, and enhancing community resilience. Tidal channel, Mangrove forest, Qeshm Island A tidal creek or tidal channel is a narrow inlet or estuary that is affected by the ebb and flow of ocean tides. Bringing a crane barge and a tugboat to this tidal channel was so risky due to the narrow width of the channel, low water depth, and high speed current.
