🚨 Dave Ramsey is at it again!! 🚨 Not really, but now that I have your attention because I'm talking about Dave Ramsey, let's get into what happened in this clip: https://lnkd.in/e7_65wFT A caller on Dave's show asked a seemingly ominous question: essentially, the caller is 66 years old with $7 million in tax-deferred money, Social Security income, and a small pension. He acknowledges that Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) will lead him off a cliff, and he's looking for help. This is pretty much all the information the caller gives Dave. Dave, working with the limited information he has, recommends that the caller should convert it all to a Roth IRA now, pay the 35 cents on the dollar all at once, and never have to worry about it again. Bite the bullet, as they say. The question is, is this a bad recommendation from Dave given the information that he had? Maybe, maybe not. The lesson I learned from this clip has nothing to do with Roth conversions or taxes. It's that, as a financial planner, I need to always be asking current and prospective clients more questions. Asking questions is the only way to get more information to better understand what outcome is important to them. We don't know what was important to this gentelman because it wasn't asked.
