In honor of pride month, here are four recent research articles in the field of LGBTQ+ studies well worth your attention. We located these articles using NewsRx's BUTTER (learn more below) Without further ado, here are five peer-reviewed scientific articles full of pride: First up is from Columbia University, titled "Effects of Racist Microaggressions and Sexual and Gender Minority Stress on Mental Health Among Latinx Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning + Young Adults." Findings indicated that racist microaggressions and family rejection were associated with psychological distress. In addition, racist microaggressions were the only stressor associated with clinically significant psychological distress that may warrant psychiatric/psychological treatment https://lnkd.in/gQXZcdHN This new study from Fordham University examines how gender and sexuality policing in sports negatively impacts the self-esteem of LGBTQ + youth. The article shows that the positive effect of playing sports on self-esteem had a comparatively lower effect for white boys, when mediated by the frequency of hearing anti-LGBTQ + language, and discusses the implications of this finding https://lnkd.in/gE32GM6h "From #AltErLove to #LoveIsLove: Transmedia formats, audience engagement and sexual diversity" - this recent study from the University of Antwerp discusses how producers utilise transmedia tools to enhance viewers’ involvement with the depicted storyline and how viewers interact with the provided content on LGBTQ issues. The researchers conclude that transmedia formats contribute to inclusive depictions of sexual minorities and generate accessible spaces for LGBTQ individuals and allies to engage with one another online https://lnkd.in/gzp9h6QQ Lastly, a study from Hamline University examines how pan-Europeanism and subsidiarity in the EU conflicts in the case of LGBTQ and transgender rights.
