Hello Bellas! It’s Friday and we hope your weekend is going to be relaxing and restorative. Being a formulator I care about every ingredient choice for our skincare products. Carrier oils are vitally important. At BellaVita we made a conscious decision to not use typical seed oils as our carrier oils. Why, because common seed oils are manufactured or extracted using solvents such as hexane. Hexane is a chemical you’ll find in jet fuel. That’s right! Jet fuel. Hexane remains in the product and our body ingests it when we apply skincare products with typical seed oils. Seed oils include: sunflower, grapeseed, and safflower. Seed oils are cheaper than their safer cousins. This is why we use Jojoba, Meadowfoam and Argan as our carrier oils. We ensure safe extraction processes with our suppliers. Raise your hand if you know what is an emulsifier is? An emulsifier is a type of stabilizer that helps keep the oil droplets dispersed throughout the aqueous ingredients (like water). These stabilizers prevent the tiny droplets from coming back together and forming their own layer. Most lotions, moisturizers, and conditioners generally have a mixture of aqueous ingredients like water or hydrosols and non-aqueous ingredients like oils, butters, and/or waxes. I have FINALLY taken the advice of my clean-living friends and ditched the Bounce Dryer Sheets! I had no idea how bad they are for you!!! Yeah, they told me they’re filled with chemicals and they’re bad for you, but I figured how bad could they be… Turns out, they’re VERY BAD for you and the environment—including our water (which is high in PFAs here in West Bridgewater). Dryer sheets are filled with chemicals and synthetic fragrances. Both are TERRIBLE for your health. And, don’t be fooled by the Bounce “Free & Gentle” formula—it has the EXACT same ingredients minus the “fragrances”. I mean, that’s better, but they’re still incredibly bad for you. The chemicals and fragrances in the dryer sheets: * Disrupt the endocrine system throwing hormones out of whack—not something I need at 50 as I navigate peri-menopause; * Can cause: Skin Irritation, Respiratory Irritation, Headaches aaaand they have Carcinogenic Effects which can cause cancer. I ditched the big name chemical laden laundry detergents years ago (I use non-toxic laundry detergent and fabric softener). I use Modere's and it's amazing--lmk if you'd like info and $10 off! I wish I had ditched the dryer sheets too, but better late than never!! I got a 6 pack of the dryer balls on Amazon for $12.
