🌪️ Major forecasters are predicting the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season will be well above the 1991-2020 average, with 15-28 tropical storms, 8-16 hurricanes, and 2-7 major hurricanes. Warmer than normal sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic are expected to favor hurricane formation. 🌊 2023 recap: An above-average season with eight landfalling storms and many "fish storms" that posed no threat to land, 2023 was nonetheless the fourth most active year on record, behind 2020, 2005, and 2021. Hurricane Idalia made history as the first major hurricane to make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region since 1842, with insured losses reported to be as high as $3 billion to $5 billion. 📈 Business implications: Windstorm risk is a global concern. The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is off to its slowest start since 2014. However, La Niña conditions are expected to ramp up quickly, bringing increased hurricane activity and varied weather patterns across the U.S. As we transition from El Niño, the Northeast might face above-average temperatures and drier conditions, potentially raising drought concerns until La Niña patterns establish by mid-July. 🔗 For a deeper dive into the hurricane season’s impact on the energy sector, check out this detailed analysis in “Hurricane Season is Upon Us: What’s the Outlook?” Mallory Brooke, Freedom Energy’s Meteorologist and Certified Consulting Meteorologist from Nor’easter Weather Consulting, wrote. https://hubs.la/Q02Gm4c60 #LaNina #HurricaneSeason #WeatherUpdate #AtlanticHurricanes #WeatherPatterns #Climate #EnergySector #DroughtConcerns

Last fall, a study in the journal Scientific Reports found that Atlantic hurricanes from 2001 to 2020 were twice as likely to grow from a weaker storm into a hurricane of Category 3 or higher within 24 hours than they were from 1971 to 1990. The study added to a growing body of evidence that rapidly developing major hurricanes were becoming more likely. Why Beryl Is a Bad Sign for This Year’s Hurricane Season https://lnkd.in/evBqJuj8

⬇️ Download the guide: https://lnkd.in/g44b-vwp Why read this guide? According to NPR, this year’s Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be extremely active, putting tens of millions of Americans in the eastern half of the country at risk from flooding and damaging winds, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center warn. The increased activity is partially caused by abnormally warm ocean temperatures driven by climate change. Forecasters expect 17 to 25 storms to form in the Atlantic between June 1 and the end of November. At least 8 of those are forecast to be full-blown hurricanes, as opposed to weaker tropical storms. And 4 to 7 are expected to be major hurricanes, with winds powerful enough to uproot trees, destroy mobile homes and damage other buildings. It’s the largest number of storms ever forecast for the Atlantic, and is well above the average of 14 storms that usually occur in a given hurricane season. ⚠️ If you live in the path of a hurricane, you need a plan.
