I've been working in the child wellbeing field for 11 years now, and I've seen a big shift. First, our team started seeing more children entering foster care each year. This was a concerning change from the past. Then we started seeing incidents of youth sleeping in offices because there were no foster homes or residential treatment centers available. That had never happened before. Now we see it's not just Kansas. It’s happening in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, Colorado, and more. It's a national foster care placement crisis, and it's coinciding with a national children's mental health crisis. At KVC Health Systems, we recently stepped back to analyze what's happening across the U.S. and what can be done to help children. St. Louis!! What a great city. I had a good time with some of my KVC Health Systems colleagues this week. We combined discussion on innovation in children’s mental health and family services with a ride to the top of the arch and some shared meals. The arch is taller than the Statue of Liberty or the Washington Monument. Kind of wild you can go up there in a tiny little, almost-windowless capsule. 🤣 Have you been?
