Join us in celebrating National Wildland Firefighter Day and honoring the hard work and sacrifices of those on the frontlines who risk their lives every day to fight wildland fires. Firefighters respond to tens of thousands of wildland fires every year, which have become increasingly larger and more complex due to drought and increased growth of the wildland-urban interface. Despite the difficult conditions and physically challenging work, thousands of firefighters, fire support staff, contractors and volunteers bravely put themselves in harm’s way to combat these fires and protect life, property and natural resources. National Wildland Firefighter Day serves as an opportunity to recognize these individuals for their professional efforts, remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and renew our commitment to wildland firefighter safety. At Jensen Hughes, our team is committed to supporting the resiliency of people, properties, assets and operations through an increasingly complex range of hazards, risks and vulnerabilities due to wildland fires. Did you know there’s a national day to honour dogs that work in fire safety? Here are some things we’ve learned from #NationalFirePupDay Ø Most #FirePups are Dalmatians because they are easier to identify when visibility becomes reduced in smoke. Ø Fire Pups were introduced to #FireSafety as early as the 1700s. Ø The dogs would run in front of the horse drawn fire carts, helping to clear the path. Ø To this day the dogs remain a valuable asset during search and rescue missions in the aftermath of a fire. Ø US fire stations still have Dalmatian fires pups, but nowadays they are used to help educate the general public in fire safety. We told Emma about #FirePupSafetyDay and now she wants to learn all about fire safety too. #NewTerra

You won’t believe what firefighters face when wildfire strikes! It’s not as easy as rolling up with the fire truck and spraying water on the fire. In wildfires, there are many factors that make it extremely dangerous work not only to the firefighters but also civilians, animals, and our environment. Larry Sukay is the Founder/CEO Western States Fire Inc, former Deputy Fire Chief, Departmental Training for the Greenburg Fire Department, and former Deputy Chief – Operations Elfin Forest/Harmony Grove Fire Department, so he knows a thing or two about firefighting. Watch what Larry has to say about the challenges firefighters face on the job. #wildfireprevention #wildfires #wildfire #firefighters

The missing link in wildfire suppression is mobile exterior sprinklers that create a wide area defense for neighborhoods, towns, and cities without needing to be continuously run and depleting critical water resources. We would benefit from improvements on all fronts: leveraging suppression technology, increasing community- based fire resiliency efforts, and taking better care of the frontline workers. Wages is a good start there. https://lnkd.in/gSbNMYzC
