This video shared by the CEO of USAA is so powerful! I was just asked during an interview, "how do you motivate your frontline staff?"
THIS. Purpose. Every employee should understand their purpose, why their role exists in the company and how their work makes a difference, contrbuting to company success.
A good example is Customer Service Reps. I do not view them as transactional call takers. I view them as relationship builders, as loyalty creators. I mean, what other group of employees is speaking directly to your customers hundreds, thousands, or even millions of times in a year??
It isn't about contests, awards, etc. It starts with PURPOSE.

I spend a lot of time talking about USAA’s mission and the importance of providing exceptional service to our members. It was a central theme of today's Employee Meeting, our first of 2024. We start every Employee Meeting with what we call a Mission Moment, where teammates talk about their “why” and their connection to the mission.
This time we heard from Rodney Thomas, an Air Force veteran, USAA member, and now, also a teammate. There’s truly no better way to illustrate the reason that what we do matters, but how we do it matters even more.

Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Military spouses carry a heavy burden of responsibility, often with little recognition or support. We honor and bare witness to the sacrifices and contributions that military spouses make to our country, and our communities.
Hear more on how we are honoring and contributing in our little way by protecting #MilitarySpouse led businesses from our Small Business Insurance leader Nate Kraynak#USAAEmployee#MilitarySpouses#UnsungHeroes#MilitaryFamilies#smallbusinessinsurance
USAA understands the importance of the role that military spouses play. As stations and duties change, they take on so much so that their partners can confidently serve our country. But this level of responsibility comes with a price. It can be difficult for military spouses to have their own careers, given the frequent change-of-station moves and increased responsibilities at home. In fact, unemployment rates of military spouses remain consistently around 21%, nearly four times the overall unemployment rate of 5.3%, according to the DoD’s survey of active-duty spouses. This is why so many military spouses turn to entrepreneurship.
One of these military spouse entrepreneurs is Katie, with Love and Lettering by Katie. She is an Air Force wife and mom who chose to turn her passion into a business. Katie’s business has enabled her to pursue her dreams, bring additional income to her family, and it transitions with her to new duty stations – enabling her the flexibility that both she and her family need. To Katie, and to all of the other military spouses out there, you have our unwavering appreciation every day. On this Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we honor and salute you.

I was looking for a "THEME" for this week's post to highlight the recent conversations with several transitioning service members. Then I found the picture below that's taught at the 6th Grade level - it fits and it's powerful.
Transitioning service members can identify with many of the words listed below as they navigate several passages in their journey to retirement or transition from the military.
The THEME of the conversations recently has been - They didn't tell us that in TAP class. This includes the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard versions.
I hear this in the life insurance discussions I have with transitioning service members, what other areas are lacking in TAP classes?
I've had the privilege to speak with many families in my new career. After our discussion, I hope they leave with the THEME of being educated about the process of obtaining life insurance. Armed with the information to best protect their family in the event of an untimely death. Naturally I would love to have earned their business but more importantly their trust, as them making the best decision for their family is the desired end state.
Because at the end of the day, some of the words come to mind - fulfillment, family, knowledge, duty, patriotism, and FRIENDSHIP.
Regardless of their decision - I've made a CONNECTION (should be added below)! I'm able to see their successes on this platform and hopefully added value to their lives as well.
Happy Tuesday and if I can assist in one area of your transition, it would be my pleasure to have a conversation about post military life insurance.
What words below resonate with you??

The comments in this article are not only shocking but also demonstrate a lack of understanding about the immense value military families bring to their communities. As a military spouse, I can attest to our resilience and the wealth of global, educational, and professional experiences we contribute wherever the U.S. military sends us. Military spouses deserve opportunities to pursue their career goals while supporting their loved ones who serve our country.
It is crucial to recognize that for many military families, having two working heads of the household is not a luxury but a necessity to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. I strongly advise conducting thorough research on military families, military spouses, and the current economic climate before making such ill-informed comments.
By gaining a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and contributions of the military community, we can foster a more supportive and inclusive environment that recognizes the immense value we bring to the workforce and society as a whole.

Advocacy is crucial in ensuring that the needs and concerns of military spouses are heard and addressed. By standing together and finding ways to research and amplify our voices, military spouses can work towards creating positive change and support for their community. It's important for leaders to understand the experiences and challenges faced by military families when discussing in order to make informed decisions.
First, I would like to thank Rep. Scott Perry for sharing his perspective on the way military spouses should support their active duty service member. It gave me the opportunity to do some research. I will start by breaking down Rep. Scott Perry’s, R-Pa military and political timeline.
He first enlisted in the Army in 1980 and retired in 2019 as a one-star general in the Pennsylvania National Guard. Commanded the 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion (Pennsylvania National Guard), deployed to Iraq from 2009-2010. In 2011, became Commander of the Fort Indiantown Gap National Training Site, PA. In 2014, served as the Assistant Division Commander of the 28th Infantry Division (Harrisburg, PA). Then retired in 2019 from the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Perry served three terms in the Pennsylvania State House (2006-2012). Perry served as the Congressman from Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District from 2013-2017. He earned re-election to the newly-redistricted 10th District in 2018, and presently serves on the U.S. House Committees.
Perry co-founded the company, Hyrdotech Mechanical Services in 1993. In 2002, the company was accused of altering sewage monitoring reports. Perry said that after taking a Department of Environmental Protection course on how to properly run a sewage plant, they realized that the work they had been doing at the plant was wrong and notified the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, triggering the investigation. He admitted his participation in falsifying state-mandated sewage records and avoided criminal charges.
While Perry has an extensive military background and has served in various positions, it is true that personal experiences may differ among individuals and families. Each military family has their own unique set of circumstances and challenges that they face, including the frequent moves and career disruptions that come with military life.
Perry may just need some education to understand the struggle of a PCS is enough without the added stress of unemployment for military families. I believe that Perry and his family never had to endure the pains of PCS nor some of the joys.
It is important for leaders to listen and empathize with the experiences of military families, even if they haven't personally experienced it themselves. Empathy and understanding can lead to better policies and support systems for military spouses and their families. Our voice and experiences are valuable in shaping discussions and policies that affect the lives of our military families.

The fact that the US Army was defrauded out of $100 million by an employee illustrates the importance for companies to know their employees. It also shows that is imperative to also do due diligence on the companies that are partnered with or used as vendors, as they could be fake, as the ones set up by this woman were. If you need help making sure that your employees, vendors and partners are reliable, or need to make sure you have a robust anti-fraud program, let me know. #fraud#due diligence #scam#frontcompanies#army#employee#vendors#attorney#consultant
