3,30,300 ❇️ 3 trees visible from every home ❇️ 30% minimum tree canopy cover ❇️ 300 meters maximum distance to large green space or park A simple principle developed by Cecil Konijnendijk to green cities. And I find this simplicity to be very powerful. I admire the courage to let go of complexity - the ultimate defense of any professional - to embrace a simple narrative. Easy to tell. Easy to understand. Easy to share. ➡️ Photo: Vliegenbos, my favorite urban forest.

In today’s saturated visual landscape, the evocative power of a still photograph is easily lost in a constant stream of swipes and clicks." Please read my piece in The Washington Post Opinion section: https://lnkd.in/eN9BKEEa

The objectives for the illustration included creating an atmosphere of lightness and tranquility, with a focus on silence and calmness. Adding vibrant natural accents was essential to bring a sense of freshness and enliven the composition with natural details. To achieve this, I based the work on the landscape description in the chapter "The Ponds," as it perfectly aligned with the concept and helped convey the pristine purity and natural beauty of the scene. https://lnkd.in/dvmUTVmm

"Notice how rich the greens are in the fields. This is achieved because the sun is coming from behind the scenes. Notice the shadows in this photo, which confirm that the sunlight is coming toward the horizon of the scene." When I’m searching for outstanding landscapes, my eye is attracted to backlit scenes. ❓ What Can Destroy a Person's Solid Reputation After a Century or More? It turns out that our reputation is not "bullet-proof," even if it is meticulously crafted to the highest standards throughout our lives. It has one vulnerability - personal VALUES. History's judgment is often unkind to once-revered figures as societal values evolve. Take the example of President Woodrow Wilson, who was once lauded for his role in establishing the Federal Reserve and advocating for global democracy through the League of Nations. Despite these accomplishments, his legacy is tarnished today by his racist and sexist beliefs, prompting a significant reassessment of his place in history (more in the article of The Economist), Another example: in June 2020, a month after George Floyd's tragic death, the United States saw a sweeping reevaluation of historical symbols. This included the removal of Christopher Columbus statues, including in Columbus, Ohio, where the statue’s symbolism of oppression and divisiveness led to its removal. Mayor Andrew Ginther stated that such symbols did not reflect the city's values or future. This evolving narrative underscores a fundamental truth: what defines a society changes over time. Values, especially those concerning equity and justice, can dramatically alter our perception of the past. Today, as we strive for a more inclusive world, the legacies of historical figures are not just remembered for their achievements but are also scrutinized for their alignment with contemporary moral standards. Be aware of that.
