How does it shape our understanding of ourselves and others? These are some of the questions that the French philosopher and sociologist Michel Foucault explored in his influential works. 📖 Our review of 'The City & The City' by China Miéville. Described over and over as being intelligent, original, and disturbing, China Miéville’s ‘The City & The City’ is a masterclass in worldbuilding, going far beyond physical expectations into the depths of cultural control. In this modern-day version of George Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ (although it is so much more than just that), crime fiction is combined with dystopia, maybe magic realism, and possibly other forms of fiction, depending on how you read and interpret the novel.
