His conflict with his teacher, Naze, led him to join the military. - Vietnam War: Serving in Vietnam, Forge rose in the ranks to become a sergeant. The Mission First Mindset Often Kills Them I am riding a backroads route of 10,000 miles, 10 days, Florida to Alaska, with no electronic navigation, and no interstates, and will sleep outside with my motorcycle the entire route. U.S. Navy Veteran Cory Smith (Video Game Design, ‘26) is sailing to success. Cory served in the Navy from 2015 to 2023. Onboard the USS Oak-Hill LSD-51, he completed two deployments and several Special Operations. “In our second deployment, we were in the 5th fleet in the Persian Gulf, doing circles in the water because of COVID -- all ports were closed. We spent 151 days (about 5 months) consecutively out to sea. We performed round the clock drills to maintain preparedness. It was a challenging time.” “One fun experience was providing aid such as food and water for our brothers and sisters in submarines. It had never been done before.” Cory's process of enrolling at NEIT as a Veteran was smooth. “Coming from a Veteran family, dating back to WW2, my great grandparents were in the Navy; one became a Marine Raider, the first in his battalion to touch the beaches of Okinawa. Today, their sacrifices are even more important to me. " For Cory, one of the most rewarding parts of being at NEIT is the opportunity to learn from the faculty who are deeply knowledgeable about the field. “They are an essential tool helping students to be fully prepared for the future.” “One pivotal way that New England Tech prepares us for success is the amount of knowledge and practical experience the faculty has. They are engaging and encourage us to go above our skill level and do better.” Video games were instrumental to Cory growing up. He wants to pay it forward. “I remember going to my friend’s house to play Halo 2 tournaments, Rock Band, and Minecraft. Video games were an escape for me. Even in the Navy, I would hop on my Switch and play when I had time. I created core memories, and I met a lot of great friends. I want to create games that develop core memories for people like they did for me – that bring people together from different social classes, backgrounds, creeds, and cultures, so they can have that experience.” #videogamedesign #veteran #career #neit #succcess

As a kid I grew up on Air Force bases all around the country & overseas. I love the fact that I live & work near Luke AFB in Glendale, Arizona as planespotting is a hobby of mine that I also share with my youngest son. Here is an F-35 practicing the basics of touch & go’s. Mastery & perfecting the basics are necessary in all fields of work as professionals. It is the foundation that everything else is built upon. We can’t do all of the other “cool” stuff without putting in the work & mastering the basic’s through deliberate practice. #lifelonglearning #traininganddevelopment #fireservice

#ThisDayInHistory #PearlHarbor | What makes the Attack on Pearl Harbor stand out to me is how America got back up the day after… this video depicts that. Admiral Yamamoto said said he could only guarantee Japan six months of military success in the Pacific after the attack. Five months later, the United States did what had never been done before, launching B-25 bombers off aircraft carriers to attack Tokyo (Doolittle Raid). Six months later, the United States prevented the Imperial Japanese Navy from isolating Australia at the Battle of Coral Sea. Seven months later, the United States turned the war around at the Battle of Midway, trouncing the same Kidō Butai ("Mobile Force") that had attacked Pearl Harbor. Imperial Japan lost 4 fleet carriers, 248 aircraft, and the most experienced combat pilots in the world at the time from the battle. It never recovered, and was on the strategic defense the rest of the war. Victory at Midway was not assured. If those obsolete bombers from Midway had not kept Nagumo’s carriers in evasive maneuvers, sacrificing themselves to buy the U.S. Navy precious time, the battle could have gone very differently. The U.S. could have lost the war in the Pacific. Could we repeat that, going from disaster to victory in less than a year? That is what we should take away from today.
