Don’t forget that ‘Yield’ has already started with your next class of students. Every time you send them an email, and every time you tell them to visit or apply they feel a certain way. How are your messages making them feel? It matters A LOT when it comes to taking that next step and yield. #highered #higheredmarketing #higheredleadership #emchat

The number of times I've said 'yield is not a season' is probably annoying to everyone around me. Same 'anti-melt' - everything we do for a student in their entire journey is about yielding and retaining them.

My cabinet colleagues used to ask me, “If we delay making this decision how many families will decide on another college in the meantime?” My response was always something like this, “I don’t have my crystal ball with me so I can’t give you a specific number but, I can assure you at least some.” Every day some families are making decisions. Whether to add or subtract your college from the short list, to apply, to visit, to include on the FAFSA. Time lost, are students lost. Period.

It always surprises me how many institutions drop communications like a hot potato with interested students once enrollment targets are achieved. Even if they decide to study somewhere else it is a warm lead for potential post-grad offerings or similar. Not to mention the student has friends & family etc. This is not a short game.
