I've said it many times before - only two things will slow down the development and use of AI: government regulations or legal challenges from copyright owners. Some companies, like Adobe and Apple, are using or planning to use licensed content for generative AI. Other AI companies, who are "scraping the web" for content in the name of fair use, are going to face significant legal challenges. Another problem is that they're not even stealing equitably. As far as I can tell, my work isn't being scraped.

Fascinating to see this development. I think it could really have an impact. If it was smaller companies or individuals bringing suit, it'd be more likely for the AI companies (facilitated by the legal system) to ride roughshod over them. But these are some heavy hitters with big public platforms to boot -- filing the lawsuits.
