"We do not build Rabbit R1 to replace your phone." Rabbit debuted their flagship product R1 last night, the latest AI-powered gadget following the steps of Humane Pin and others. What is it? A small touch pad with a Siri like voice assistant that executes commands based on your voice. Couple takeaways from their keynote: - Hardware first: the team built a new hardware to be freed of the limitations of Apple & Google - It's fast: ~5ms response time for most actions, way faster than ChatGPT - Fair price: $199 with no subscriptions (crazy in today's world) Potential challenges: - Adoption: do people want to carry a separate "phone" that has a better "Siri" - Finding the niche: the gadget is for general purpose, what will be it's biggest use case? Is it to book an uber ride, or to reply to emails? - Competition: what if Apple and Google just integrated their assistant BETTER with apps? The Rabbit R1 will be the first of many to improve on the voice to action interface that current phones lack. But should they succeed, they will replace phones, and that goal is worthwhile aiming for. #aiassistants #aihardware #rabbitr1 #smartgadgets

#AppleEvent #WWDC24 keynote was great! Specifically Apples approach to making use of AI was noteworthy 1. They will try to leverage SoCs AI capabilities to handle as many prompts as they can on device. Huge win for Privacy especially for iPhone users on an Enterprise Plan 2. A REAL assistant on your phone, while tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Co-pilot can do many things but nothing gets close to what Apple is doing,Siri can actually perform tasks under apps So for example you have a flight booking and there have been ongoing notifications about delays you could just ask Siri “What time is my flight flying ultimately?” In the background Siri will go through your emails and SMSs potentially even the web to present to you the answer to this. What would take typically 10 minutes and switching between multiple apps is reduced to just probably 30 seconds and your data never leaves your phone ! From a #webdev perspective it would really crazy to just ask Siri to “start a new NextJS project with docker support” and have it all setup up for me this would typically take 15-20 minutes to do ! they are also giving developers the tool to make their apps play well with Apple Intelligence and also reducing grunt work with simple voice commands ! Looking forward to integrating App Intents API for my clients ! Apple seems to have used retrieval augmented generation and their control over the whole Apple ecosystem to create real value Although great news but it’s also noteworthy is Apple is rolling it out very slow Other things to note : 1. If you have anything lower than a iPhone 15 pro you will never get these capabilities 2. Mac M1+ is required #apple #webdev #appleintelligence #airace #appintents #flutterdev #iosdev

Thrilled to hear the announcements from Apple today regarding AI and how they are incorporating it into their phones and other devices. We expect similar advances in Android devices. They are validating what Rival Insurance Technology has been developing in our solutions. The phone will continue to become more powerful, the use of spoken language will become more commonplace, even the descriptions of the UI reflect our Rival Tiles. We know our customers and prospects will be demanding more sophisticated solutions. Our competitors will be left bolting things on to keep up. On July 1st, the first #InsuranceIntelligencePlatform will be revealed in RPM, the Rival Platform and Marketplace.

I’ve been trying out the new Apple Intelligence Beta update, and there’s a lot to like! The personalization is on another level—it feels like the system really knows my habits till now. Siri’s gotten way smarter too, and it’s faster at responding, which is great for daily tasks. Plus, everything syncs so smoothly across my devices, making it super convenient. That said, there are a few hiccups. As it’s still in beta, I’ve had some glitches—Siri sometimes misunderstands me, and there’s been occasional lag. Also, the AI can be a little too eager with suggestions, throwing notifications that aren’t always relevant. I wish I could customize that more. Some third-party apps are also struggling to keep up with the new features, which can be a bit annoying. But overall, I’m impressed! It’s amazing how much it anticipates my needs, and I’m not seeing a big impact on battery life either, which is a nice bonus. It’s definitely an exciting update, even if it’s still got a few bumps to smooth out. #AppleIntelligence #BetaExperience #TechInnovation #AIUpgrade #SiriUpdate #AppleEcosystem

A few interesting numbers about the English language: * Human silent reading speed is about 250 words per minute * Human speaking speed is about 150 words per minute * English words are composed of 1.3 tokens on average What does this mean? For an LLM-based assistant to speak or generate text at a rate that doesn't feel slow to us humans, it needs to reach about 5.5 tokens per second. With Google's latest Gemma-2B model released last week, I'm seeing opportunities for on-device LLMs that operate at acceptable speeds. I'm using #mlc-llm to run the model on a 2024 phone (OnePlus 12 powered by a #snapdragon8gen3 8Gen3) vs. a 2021 phone (Oppo Find X3 Pro powered by a Snapdragon 888) and am getting an output token rate of 12.5 tok/s and 7.7 tok/s respectively. There's still room for optimization. So TL;DR: with the introduction of lighweight LLMs, we've reached this inflection point of being able to run LLMs on device that output text at a rate that doesn't feel slow by humans. And this holds true not just on flagship phones but also on devices that are 3 generations old at this point (which is over the average replacement cycle of smartphones in the US - 2.93). Will share more on MLC-LLM (technology that underpins OctoAI's text gen) in the comments...

Google I/O took place last week, with AI featuring heavily. CCS Insight were at the event to bring you the very best coverage and insight. You can get the latest analysis in our Google I/O instant insight report. https://lnkd.in/e5U2PVU5 However, AI was not the only topic on the agenda. In his latest blog post, my colleague Ben Wood discusses Google's efforts to make its hardware and software work more closely together. This is similar to Apple's approach, which has been successful in creating a seamless user experience. Some analysts believe that Google's move could hurt Android device makers like Samsung, who have traditionally had more control over the software on their devices. Google also announced updates to Android Auto, Wear OS, and Android 15. I highly recommend giving Ben's post a read: https://lnkd.in/eXcNMZ9f #technology #telecom #android #google #ccsinsight
