Our latest Cultural Tension focuses on new-age holidays. As we head into another holiday season, people are making their arrangements to celebrate. But social media and headlines paint a stark picture of a pullback on holiday celebrations: Gen Z would prefer to spend Thanksgiving alone. Millennials are rejecting family gatherings. Is there actually less interest in traditional gatherings or are we simply celebrating differently? To answer that question, we studied our evolving relationship with traditions to learn how younger generations are approaching their holiday plans - from Thanksgiving to Friendsgiving and everything in-between. To do so, we conducted our own study, focusing on college students and their view of the holidays, to understand if traditional family holiday gatherings are on the way out, or if there’s more to the story. Our research revealed a more complex reality—one that's relevant to consumers and brands alike. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/euQN5D5E

Holidays can be the season of magic and wonder, but that can often come at a cost. Every year as a family we do the Polar Express. The amazing people at Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation in Burlington really go all out. You get the tickets in June (!) and have to cross your fingers the kids stay healthy for that day the first weekend in December. We do the matching holiday pjs for the kids (make sure they are clean), drive the 50 mins to Burlington (it’s always terrible weather), ride the train with hot chocolate and cookies, sing/listen to carolers, high five the 100s of volunteer elves, listen to the book, and of course meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and get a bell (which gets rung, in stereo, for the full 50 min drive home). It’s an amazing way to kick off the magic of the holiday season. It’s also exhausting. While it lifts me up to see my kids experiencing the wonder of these events, I also know what it took to get there. So this holiday season don’t forget to check in with yourself. Ask for help if possible. Give yourself (and those around you) all the grace you can muster. Don’t feel bad for letting go of traditions that no longer serve you. It’s hard creating all this excitement, and requires a lot of the people engineering it. Picture of kid #2 turning Christmas tree shopping into hide and seek yesterday. Another overwhelmingly joyful albeit slightly exhausting experience. #workingparents #holidays #magiccanbeexhausting

As we step into the holiday season, I’ve been reflecting on what this time of year brings for those of us who juggle multiple hats, especially as primary parents. The holidays are magical, but they also come with a unique kind of invisible labor: coordinating schedules, buying and wrapping gifts, planning meals, making traditions come alive, and ensuring everyone around us feels the joy of the season. It’s a role I embrace with love, but let’s be honest - it’s a lot. This year, I’ve added another hat to my collection: job seeker. Searching for meaningful work that aligns with my values and passions has been an exciting and rewarding journey, but it’s also a demanding one. It requires focus, reflection, and time, three things that often feel in short supply this season. I know I’m not alone in this. Many primary caregivers, especially mothers, shoulder a disproportionate share of holiday planning while balancing professional goals, family needs, and our own mental and emotional health. It’s a delicate dance, and it’s okay to admit that it’s hard. As I reflect, I remind myself to extend the same grace to myself that I would offer to others. It’s okay to pause and breathe, to set boundaries, and to let go of the expectation to do it all perfectly (this last one... is hard). If you’re in a similar season of life, whether you’re a parent, a job seeker, or both, I see you. Let’s remember that it’s okay to ask for help, lean on our community, and take moments to recharge. We’re all doing the best we can, and that’s enough. Here’s to a holiday season filled with connection, small joys, and the promise of new beginnings. If you’re navigating this balancing act, too, I’d love to hear your perspective. Let’s support each other through this season and beyond. #Holidays #PrimaryParenting #JobSearch #MentalHealth #GraceNotPerfection #CaregiverLife #Community

The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, but it can bring new routines, sensory overload, and a lot of excitement—sometimes too much! You'll know what's best for you and your family, but here are a few tips to help your family enjoy a joyful, manageable holiday season. 🌟 Prepare and Practice: Talk about upcoming events, practice greetings, and introduce any new traditions early. Familiarity can make new experiences feel less overwhelming. 🔕 Create a Quiet Space: Designate a cozy corner for breaks during gatherings. Having a calm place to retreat to can help kids self-regulate when things get too busy. 🌈 Set Realistic Expectations: Every child is unique, and your family’s holiday experience should reflect that. Celebrate each small moment and go at a pace that feels comfortable. Let’s make this holiday season memorable, comfortable, and filled with love. We’re here to support you every step of the way! 💙 #HolidaySeasonTips #ABAFamilySupport #AutismFriendlyHolidays #SupportingFamilies #JoyfulHolidays #ABAcommunity #FamilyFirst #TogetherWeGrow

"Tradition” is a tug-of-war between what was and what can be. The holidays bring food, family, fun—and yes, sometimes frustration. And when you add family businesses into the mix, it can feel like you’re more co-workers than relatives. But holidays are the perfect time to step back, honor traditions, and reconnect as a family. But what happens when those traditions need to evolve? How can we preserve what’s meaningful while adapting to our changing dynamics? Navigating long-held family traditions requires communication, understanding, and a little leadership from within. Life isn’t about choosing this or that—it’s about blending the old with the new, balancing individuality with collectivism. What it takes is for someone to start the conversation from a place of curiosity and exploration. So, can families really embrace both individuality and togetherness? Yes, and here’s how to do it while honoring your traditions and values ⬇️ 🔗https://zurl.co/Maq6 #positivelypeople #familybusiness #familyconsulting #holidaytraditions #movingforward
