Hiring top-tier engineering talent can be hard. It’s even harder when you don't know what you're looking for. But, If you’re trying to build a world-class team, you need to be looking for world-class players. Here's what to look for: 1. Problem-solving skills 2. Curiosity 3. Ability to learn 4. Communication skills 5. Passion And if you are a startup, you need to be looking for something extra: 6. Flexibility 7. Willingness to work outside their comfort zone 8. Self-directed learning Remember, you might need to make compromises. But, don't compromise too much. Hire the best, or else someone else will.

I know a lot of engineers, product managers, designers, etc. that are still looking for work. Here's a tip that's largely discussed in every hiring manager call I've had over the last few years. When looking at resumes, or discussing your work to a hiring team...it's crucial to give real world examples of how "X" work you did impacted "X" product or user activity. Real world examples - that's what hiring teams look for. Many candidates say for example I worked on a specific set of features or responsibilities, and they think that's what hiring teams want to hear. But without the real world application, it carries less weight. It's better to say things like...I completed "X" which allowed the company to generate 20% more user activity and retention. Hiring managers love to see what your previous work can do for their company. Always understand the nature of the problem they're trying to solve. Then capitalize by showcasing the data. #createopportunity
