💚 🌍 Happy World Environment Day 🌏💚 It’s a day for positivity, with theme being #GenerationRestoration – a call to revive lands, end desertification and secure water. 🏜 🌊 🌳 🦕 🐣 And just a reminder, the ‘generation’ call out doesn’t make this just a young-person’s problem. Climate change issues affect everyone, of every age and every generation; it’s a call to us all. It’s also a call to respect indigenous peoples’ land management practices and rights; a call to secure safe water for everyone; and to revive environments across the globe, not just for the benefit of the west. There are lots of global events going on, as well as in schools and institutions. But if you’re not currently participating in a global/political movement, what could you actually do today/this week/this month to make a difference? I’ve got a few ideas: 💧 You might think clean, safe water is not an issue in a country like the UK – but you’d be wrong. Check out Surfers Against Sewage and City to Sea to find out more. 🌱 You could plant trees or help with landscape restoration work. Ask your local council about tree planting near you or check out The Woodland Trust for more ideas. You could also sponsor or fund a tree or look to make your outdoor space (if you have one) a bit more wildlife friendly. 🍫 You could litter pick or join an organised litter pick. 💻 Research just one way you could reduce your waste and/or consumption. It’s an impossible ask to cut out all consumption that’s not environmentally friendly, but small steps are big steps. You could compile a list of planet-damaging brands that you no longer want to support and think of ways to move away from them. 💪 You could join an environmental group or movement in your local area. Start an initiative at a local school, your office or club… The options are endless. And that’s something I find really positive. With so much change to make – there’s so much scope, no wrong place to start and every little counts. Got any ideas to share? #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #EcosystemRestoration #GlobalGuardians #EnvironmentalStewardship #CommunityEngagement

And the woodland around them- its not just about planting trees. We urgently need to bring traditional coppices back into management if the retreat of Nightingales, Dormice, Pearl Bordered Fritillaries and iconic ancient woodland flora aren't just to drift off into the dark without anyone noticing.
