The Tribal Coastal Resilience Portfolio of the Northwest Climate Resilience Collaborative, in collaboration with the UW Climate Impacts Group, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, and Washington Sea Grant, have released a report on “Climate Adaptation Barriers and Needs Experienced by Northwest Coastal Tribes.” Despite taking the lead in climate adaptation, NW coastal Tribes face significant limitations, including financial support, staff and workforce capacity, partnerships, technical assistance, and communication, education and outreach. 🌍 The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the US 🇺🇸 has unveiled its Equitable Climate Services Action Plan to make climate data and tools more accessible to all, especially underserved communities. “Our goal is to ensure all communities have the resources needed to thrive in a changing climate,” said NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad. This initiative is a vital step towards creating a 🌱 Climate-Ready Nation. This is something we should have in Canada too! With the escalating challenges posed by climate change, understanding and enhancing our public infrastructure has never been more important. We held a workshop in May 2024 devoted to the role of public infrastructure in effective climate mitigation and adaptation. The workshop looked at defining "infrastructure" in the context of climate change, explored how public infrastructure can contribute to sustainable and equitable climate responses, and addressed interdisciplinary approaches to enhancing public infrastructure for better climate risk management.
