There was a lot of talk at #COP28 about a just and fair net-zero transition in the Middle East - but it's not always clear how this is achieved, esp. for finance. So I put some thoughts down in a paper for the World Governments Summit - it's not rocket science (my paper I mean 😉) but there are some basics that need to be in place: * Financial institutions should look at ESG strategically - and figure out how sustainable development sits in their long-term business models. ESG is not a compliance issue alone - it is much, much more. * Finance professionals need to do what they do best and think innovatively - what are the different vehicles / products that can move capital quickly and at scale? * Govts and regulators must drive inclusive policies esp. on gender - supporting actions that put marginalized groups front and center ... because the transition MUST benefit everyone. Not just the people who hold the money ... https://lnkd.in/dT82puJX #SustainableDevelopment #NetZero #ESG #FinancialInnovation #SustainableFinance #ey Charlie Alexander Nathaniel Blackmore Bilal Ahmad Khan Marco Duso Matthew Bell Ankit Singhal Mary O'Leary Kacper Duda Rohan Vaswani Hanadi Musharrafiyeh Gillian Lofts Oriane Schoonbroodt Christophe Lumsden Nadia Boumeziout Camilla d'Abo Michael Wood Cameron Cresswell

Exactly this! There is still much to do educating financial institutions including SWF’s to see past many ‘greenwashing’ projects and that these investments supporting new technologies or processes actually make substantial impact in emission reductions, whether it’s cleaning up landfill gas, reducing energy consumption, saving and re-using precious commodities like water (from OPW especially), coastal regeneration and greening the desert, regenerating soil health and many more…these are just a few highlights of the projects we have on the table right now…all of which are incredibly profitable too…sometimes it’s the little guys that hold the keys to the big solutions. #foodsecurities #waterscarcity #biodiversity
