This #memberspotlight needs no extra spotlight to shine bright! Highlighting Monica Buren, MBA, Supplier Diversity Manager with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. In February 2019, Monica was named Diversity Hero by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly Magazine. That same year in December 2019, she received the Advocate of the Year award from Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council. Then, in May 2023, she was again named Diversity Hero by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly Magazine and in August 2023, was accepted into The St. Louis Business Diversity Initiative – Fellows Experience Leadership Program 2023/2024. The best career advice she ever received? From her mentor, he said be open to pivoting into new spaces. She notes, this can mean different things for different people, but for her, it means being open to exploring new industries and roles even if they didn't necessarily match her original career goals. Her mentor also said to venture outside of her comfort zone, meet new people - you never know where that next connection could lead you. Show up early and be ready, become a lifelong learner, check in with your career path once per year- you may find your goals and career designs have changed; search for the value in feedback or criticism, cultivate perseverance – every failure is not a final “NO” and always, always keep your promises.

What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Our CEO Anne Sample answers that (and other) provocative questions in this short leadership profile for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (MSPBJ). She says, “In 2018, I transitioned from being a corporate HR leader to the sole owner of Navigate Forward, a boutique consulting firm focused on executive career services. The transition to business ownership came with valuable lessons: the importance of staying focused on our unique value and differentiators, listening to your clients, learning before making changes, and taking calculated risks. Don’t be afraid to try new things. If you fail, fail fast and learn from it. Above all, I realized that success hinges on the strength of the team—nurturing and retaining talent while consistently bringing in exceptional new members as we expand. This journey has been more work than I could have ever anticipated but also incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling.” See more insights from Anne and other top female executives in this story: https://lnkd.in/gvAqMBYZ

Helping mid-to-senior female leaders overcome self-doubt and navigate transitions with confidence and joy | The Conduit |
One of the key findings in The 2024 KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit Report, titled Advancing the Future of Women in Business, showed that “78% of executive women surveyed reported an increase in representation of women in their organisation’s C-suite over the last ten years, and 73% believe that such a role is within their grasp”. Regrettably, these percentages are not the reality of the C-suite composition. Barring the real challenges preventing women from accelerating and maintaining their positions, the hesitance and self-selection within the aspiring female executive are equally strong. “Our beliefs about ourselves are important in shaping all kinds of important decisions, such as what colleges we apply to, which career paths we choose, and whether we are willing to contribute ideas in the workplace or try to compete for a promotion.” - Katherine Coffman. Dear Female Leader, You are talented, capable, competent and an excellent fit for the role; don’t self-select yourself out. Way too much in your head? Let’s talk.
