The Analytics Solutions Center held its first business pitch competition as a part of the Tech Innovator Challenge this month. Students presented their business ideas to peers and a panel of judges in hopes of receiving seed funding. The winners of this competition are Samantha Walters and Hope Johnson! They will now select a team of student workers to execute their business idea, all while having the support of one of our amazing PhD professors, Carly Fox, PhD, Sharad Jones, PhD and Doug Derrick. I grew up in Pittsfield, a city that for too long was defined by its manufacturing past and by its relationship to a single company - GE. The idea that they could succeed in doing that by leveraging the talents and resources in places like Pittsfield and so many just like it is reason to be hopeful and to find a way to go the extra mile. I am very proud of my students' work presented during our Community Entrepreneurship Showcase. Here is what they found in their research work. Two general forms of Carbon capture and storage (CCS): ●Biological carbon capture and storage: the process by which CO2 from the atmosphere can be stored in the natural world, such as forests and oceans. ●Artificial / Geological carbon capture and storage: the process of removing CO2 emissions from human-caused processes and storing them in large underground facilities.
