🚨 Is Sleep Apnea in REM Threatening Your Patients’ Memory? 🚨 In the latest edition of More Than Teeth🦷, we uncover groundbreaking research linking REM sleep apnea to memory decline, especially in those at high risk for Alzheimer’s. 🔍 Key Insights: • REM Sleep Impact: Severe REM-related OSA drastically lowers verbal memory performance, as measured by AHI and ODI. • Genetic Vulnerability: Older adults and APOE4 carriers show significant memory decline, needing targeted intervention. • REM vs. NREM: REM sleep apnea poses a greater cognitive threat due to longer apneas and severe desaturations. 🛠️ Practical Tips: 1. Comprehensive Screening: Focus on REM sleep disturbances. 2. Targeted Interventions: Proactively manage REM-related OSA with CPAP or oral appliances. 3. Educate Patients: Highlight the cognitive risks and treatment benefits. https://buff.ly/4cHpNGb #DentalSleepMedicine #Alzheimers #SleepApnea #PatientCare #MoreThanTeeth🦷

Feeling sleep deprived? Creatine might be your answer. A new study from Scientific Reports reveals that a single, high dose of creatine can significantly improve cognitive performance in sleep-deprived individuals. This could be a game-changer for professionals like healthcare workers, firefighters, and anyone working night shifts who must remain sharp despite lack of sleep. While creatine is often associated with muscle energy in athletes, its potential benefits for brain health are gaining attention. This finding adds to existing research that has already hinted at creatine's potential to enhance cognitive functions, making it a promising tool for mental sharpness. Creatine is not just for athletes; its benefits for brain health are now coming into the spotlight. The research indicates that creatine helps the brain generate energy quickly and efficiently, particularly under stress like sleep deprivation. However, before we get too excited, it's important to note that the study used a very high dose of creatine monohydrate (0.35 g/kg) , which may not be safe for regular use. More research is needed to determine optimal dosing that is both effective and safe. As we look forward to more studies, this initial finding opens up intriguing possibilities for enhancing cognitive function when we need it most. 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘨
