Since June, I have been working on various projects at Alif & Co Chartered Accountants, London Branch, as a Trainee Accountant. I am fortunate to have a very friendly and supportive trainer who has been instrumental in helping me complete these tasks accurately. The learning process has been much easier thanks to his guidance, and I am deeply grateful for his invaluable support. During my internship, I have gained experience in BANK RECONCILIATION, CREATING ACCOUNTS in accounting software, INVOICING, PAYROLL, TAX, VAT submission, VAT claims, TRANSACTION checking, and many other tasks. (Please note: I have not yet completed my internship, so there is still much to learn in the days ahead). As I prepare to enter the competitive job market in the UK, I recognize the challenges ahead. Observing many students on LinkedIn, I see that success often follows numerous failures. There are rarely first-attempt or overnight successes; instead, repeated failures teach different methods to try again. As Iman Gadzhi wisely said, "First or overnight success will build ego, and slow success builds character." I believe that I am gathering the experience and qualities necessary to pursue my dream. "MY ICAN JOURNEY" A Word which kept me going "ICAN" The word "ICAN" became my motto, reminding me that I CAN do it. I am thrilled to share that I passed my #ican exams in just one attempt within two and a half years. I discovered #ican in my first year of university, Due to financial constraints, I decided to write the exams after my graduation. However, a seminar I attended changed everything. The speaker shared how her #ican certificate and relevant skills landed her an internship at an accounting firm prior to graduation. I knew I had to follow in her footsteps. Determined to succeed, I found a way to raise funds for my exams. I wrote my ATS 1 in March 2022 and, encouraged by my easy pass, I paid for my ATS 2. As I progressed, the exams became increasingly challenging. I was intimidated by the high failure rates in Performance Management (Skills Level) and Advanced Audit and Assurance (Professional Level), but I refused to be held back by fear. Through hard work, dedication, and steadfast prayer, I pushed through the obstacles and achieved my goal. I passed all my papers without attending any tutorials, relying on #ican study packs and online materials. During my journey, I developed strong time management skills, balancing my reading schedule with work commitments. This is just the beginning of my journey... I'm now open to internship opportunities in Auditing, Accounting, Finance, and Investment Banking. I'm eager to apply my knowledge, gain industry insights, and tackle challenging projects. I look forward to learning from experts in my field.

Reflecting on my internship journey in public accounting to this point. Throw out your assumptions about the PER—it's not your average training stint! To become an ACCA member, you need to conquer three pillars: exams, ethics modules, and the often-misunderstood Practical Experience Requirement (PER). Many see PER as just a training stint, but it's much more than that—it's about proving you've mastered the skills required for the profession. Find Your Kingdom: Your job should involve tasks in accounting, finance, or audit. Even if it's not your primary responsibility, any time spent on these activities counts towards your 36 months' experience. No, your weekend gig as a dog walker doesn't count, even if you're super good at counting puppies. 🐶 The Great Confusion: Is it training? An internship? Part-time? Full-time? A secret mission? Ideally, you want a job where you're neck-deep in numbers and financial jargon. If your role involves a bit of everything, that's cool too. Your experience still counts. You can utilize experience from previous roles, voluntary work, internships—even before registering with ACCA. Starting in a junior role is okay—what matters is gaining more responsibilities over time. Think promotions, job changes, or even job rotations and secondments. To make the most of your PER, plan your career actively. Set goals, target the types of jobs you want, and aim for increasing responsibility. Whether it's a full-time job, part-time role, or voluntary work, ensure you're gaining relevant experience and tracking it properly.
