Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection - JCTR’s Post

Celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development! 🎉 Today, we honour the richness of the world's cultures and the pivotal role of intercultural dialogue in fostering peace and sustainable development. UNESCO’s data reveals that the cultural and creative sector is a powerful engine of global development, employing over 48 million people, nearly half of whom are women. Yet, this sector still needs greater recognition in public policies and international cooperation. At JCTR, we echo the call for cultural diversity as a cornerstone for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). Cultural diversity not only drives economic growth but also enriches our lives. As we celebrate this day, let’s remember that 89% of conflicts occur in areas with low intercultural dialogue. Strengthening this dialogue is essential for peace and stability. The historic Declaration for Culture adopted at MONDIACULT 2022 marks a significant step forward, affirming culture as a global public good and integrating it into the development agenda beyond 2030. This declaration supports artists' rights, indigenous communities, and the protection of cultural heritage. Join us in advocating for a world where cultural diversity is celebrated and protected. Let's harness the creative potential of diverse cultures to build a sustainable future for all.
