Celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development! 🎉 Today, we honour the richness of the world's cultures and the pivotal role of intercultural dialogue in fostering peace and sustainable development. UNESCO’s data reveals that the cultural and creative sector is a powerful engine of global development, employing over 48 million people, nearly half of whom are women. Yet, this sector still needs greater recognition in public policies and international cooperation. At JCTR, we echo the call for cultural diversity as a cornerstone for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). Cultural diversity not only drives economic growth but also enriches our lives. As we celebrate this day, let’s remember that 89% of conflicts occur in areas with low intercultural dialogue. Strengthening this dialogue is essential for peace and stability. The historic Declaration for Culture adopted at MONDIACULT 2022 marks a significant step forward, affirming culture as a global public good and integrating it into the development agenda beyond 2030. This declaration supports artists' rights, indigenous communities, and the protection of cultural heritage. Join us in advocating for a world where cultural diversity is celebrated and protected. Let's harness the creative potential of diverse cultures to build a sustainable future for all. 🌏 Celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development 🌍 Today, on May 21st, we join UNESCO in highlighting the richness of the world's cultures and the critical role of intercultural dialogue in fostering peace and sustainable development. With 89% of current conflicts occurring in countries with low intercultural dialogue, strengthening these conversations is crucial. The cultural and creative sectors, employing over 48 million people globally (nearly half women), are powerful drivers of development, representing 6.2% of all jobs and 3.1% of global GDP. However, these sectors need more recognition in public policies and international cooperation. UNESCO's Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and subsequent resolutions affirm culture's vital role in sustainable development. Let's use this day to deepen our understanding and support sustainable cultural systems, promote balanced cultural exchanges, and uphold human rights. Together, we can build a more inclusive and dynamic world. #WorldCulturalDiversityDay #DiversityAndInclusion #UNESCO #CulturalHeritage #DiversityMatters #CelebrateDiversity #DEI

In 2002 the United Nations declared May 21st the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, following UNESCO’s adoption of Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, to promote understanding and respect towards different cultures. This day represents a chance to appreciate the value of every culture with the aim of learning to live together in a constructive way, by fostering solidarity and empathy. Furthermore, since the establishment of the 17 SDGs that must be achieved by 2030, unity and collaboration are increasingly important: in fact, these goals can be achieved more easily when all the creative potentials are brought together. We need to be open to different experiences: the more we expand our horizons, the better we can guarantee freedom and human rights. Earlier this week was World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development 2024. This is led by UNESCO and the day seeks to highlight not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. At Hyfa Foundation we focus on under-represented groups, which often includes people from culturally diverse sectors of our country. Why Cultural Diversity Matters: • Peace and Stability: With three-quarters of major conflicts having cultural dimensions, bridging cultural gaps is crucial for global peace and stability. • Driving Development: Cultural diversity not only fuels economic growth but also enriches intellectual, emotional, moral, and spiritual lives. • Sustainable Progress: Embracing cultural diversity is key to reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development goals. UNESCO’s Four Goals for Cultural Diversity: 1. Support Sustainable Cultural Governance: Strengthen systems that govern cultural policies and practices. 2. Promote Cultural Exchange: Facilitate the balanced flow of cultural goods and services and enhance the mobility of artists and cultural professionals. 3. Integrate Culture in Development: Embed cultural considerations into sustainable development frameworks. 4. Uphold Human Rights: Ensure that cultural diversity promotes human rights and fundamental freedoms. Businesses have a unique role to play in highlighting cultural diversity and dialogue. By valuing and promoting diverse cultures within our organisations, we contribute to a more inclusive and prosperous world. Hyfa Foundation’s goal is to fill the gap between the lack of financial literacy in the UK and the role it plays in helping get people out of poverty, improve their mental health and gain skills and confidence to take control of their lives. Join the conversation and share how your organisation supports cultural diversity. #UNESCO #CulturalDiversity #SustainableDevelopment #ConflictResolution #BusinessForCulture #LifeGoals

THE DIVERSITY OF CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS IS CRUCIAL FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT & PEACE! Every year on May 21st, UNESCO commemorates the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The occasion celebrates the vast array of world cultures and emphasizes the vital role of intercultural dialogue in fostering peace and sustainable development. According to UNESCO data 89 percent of current conflicts occur in countries with minimal intercultural dialogue. The statistic clearly demonstrates the importance of promoting dialogue for cooperation and peace. The cultural and creative sector, which employs over 48 million people worldwide, nearly half of whom are women, acts as a significant driver of development. However, the sector still lacks adequate recognition in both public policies and international cooperation efforts. In an effort to address the issue, delegations from 150 States convened in Mexico in September 2022 for MONDIACULT 2022, marking the largest global conference on culture in four decades. The delegations collectively adopted the Declaration for Culture, recognizing culture as a "global public good." This declaration advocates for the inclusion of culture as a distinct objective in the development agenda beyond 2030, covering aspects from artistic freedom to cultural heritage protection. Let us continue to support and celebrate cultural diversity, ensuring sustainable development and peace for all.
