Generosity is part of who we are, but the shape it takes continues to change.
The Generosity Commission has listened to and learned from scholars,
practitioners, and ordinary Americans to better understand every day giving and
volunteering today.
Today, the Commission has launched its final report, Everyday Actions,
Extraordinary Potential: The Power of Giving and Volunteering with actionable
insights for leaders across different sectors.
Please take the time to read and share. As co-chair of the Research Task Force, I can attest to the care an attention that's gone in to this report. While it may not be new news to many of us, it's important that we amplify the messages and suggestions in the report and add to them, build on them, use them as a springboard to re-energize and even re-invent the relationship between nonprofits and donors, a relationship which I deeply believe is not binary.
We are almost all wearing multiple hats -- I lead a nonprofit, I benefit from nonprofits, I donate to nonprofits, I volunteer at nonprofits AND I donate to campaigns, I protest, I help out friends and neighbors and try to make change in all the ways I can. My roles shift over time too. We've done ourselves a disservice by thinking of these sides and these fixed roles. It's time to change that dynamic.
