It’s been a year since the Lufthansa Group introduced Green Fares on continental flights and I am thrilled that over 1 million passengers have already opted for a more sustainable way of flying - collectively offsetting more than 77 thousand tons of CO2. With Green Fares, travelers can mitigate the carbon footprint of their flight through a combination of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and climate projects. Up to 20% of CO2 emissions are reduced through SAF, while 80% are offset through a wide portfolio of climate initiatives such as CarbonCure Technologies’ Sustainable Concrete, which recycles CO2 emissions into new concrete. We are also piloting Green Fares for long-haul flights with a positive uptake so far: 4% of travelers have booked this option. #MakeChangeFly #SAF

Using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) when travelling by plane can reduce CO2 emissions by around 80% compared to fossil kerosene, making it a good way to travel more sustainably. And it was precisely this benefit that we wanted to communicate in our joint campaign with Austrian Airlines and thjnk Berlin. We launched a very Austrian campaign and gave it a very local and humorous twist to communicate the complex issue of sustainability in #Aviation and the benefits of SAF to the general public in a clear and unambiguous way.  More than 15.4 million impressions with a target achievement of 107%, a reach of 2.4 million people and a CPM of €1.30 prove that the topic of #Sustainability in aviation can indeed be made accessible to the public through a humorous approach. Repeatedly seeing emissions data may raise traveler awareness of the environmental impact of flying, potentially garnering support for emissions reduction regulations and sustainable travel investments. All stakeholders in aviation need to contribute if we want to reach #NetZero by 2050. It's therefore great to see that airports like Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA), are stepping up to make air travel more sustainable! RTHA recently committed to blending Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on all aircraft from 2024. On top of the European blending mandate of 6%, the airport will accelerate its efforts by setting itself a minimum target of 8% to meet the more ambitious goal of the Dutch aviation sector of 14% by 2030. Since 2022, SkyNRG and CHOOOSE have been working with RTHA to enable individual travelers to understand and reduce their carbon footprint from flying, using the Fly on SAF tool on RTHA’s website. Setting these additional blending targets is a great new milestone and shows RTHA’s progressive approach to more sustainable aviation.
