We are diverse, we are stronger. Now that I have left Procter & Gamble for some years, I know what I learn from this experience. I could talk about great marketing leaders, and training... but it is not what left the deeper change in my understanding of the business world. I worked at a couple of European companies before, and what was the most striking was the multicultural aspect. You join P&G, and immediately, you work with hundreds of people from different countries and different horizons. It is not about Corporate Social Responsibility, it is about performance. A team is stronger when you have diverse people period. In Europe, you can admit other people because you want to look good in your corporate communication. In a true multinational company like P&G, you hire people from different cultures and backgrounds to be the best. I would have never thought of that before joining P&G, I would have structured my business the same way without this experience, and I would have probably completely crashed the company with only "Like me" people at emazing. We will succeed not despite of our diversity, but because of it.

This past year has been one laced with growth. It's been one year since I joined Pernod Ricard and certainly, the first couple of months came with a potpourri of emotions: moving from settling into my new role to self-doubt, from pushing myself to eventually getting a hang of the demands of the role. Joining at a time when the organisation was going through a series of transformations, it appeared my teething phase lingered longer than I'd anticipated. Struggling to find my rhythm meant I occasionally doubted my abilities and contemplated throwing in the towel a couple of times. To get past this stage, two things worked for me. Firstly, in my subconscious, I was convinced that if I could endure, be consistent, push myself, and not give up, I'd come out stronger. Lastly, I had the support and cheering of those that mattered the most; my family and colleagues. Munirat Yahaya was that one person who kept believing in me. In fact, she opened my mind to cracking what I had thought impossible, and this was the beginning of me getting my groove back. I also enjoyed the immense support of my line manager - thank you, Bode Omosagba, for seeing the potential in me and for providing the required support all the way. I'm elated that the efforts I put into turning things around didn't go unnoticed as I clinched two awards at the FY23 company retreat and awards ceremony. Having won the CEO award and the "Deliver through collaboration" award, I'm motivated to continue to give my utmost best to contribute to the growth of the business. I completed an incredible 14 years at PepsiCo today. These years went by in a breeze, and I'm super proud of what I have achieved. I am sharing a few lessons I learned in the last 20 years of my career journey. > Focus and consistency can make your idea come alive. > Stay focused and prioritize what's important and what's not. > You will not have all the answers and solutions to all the problems but you will find the right people who can give you the solutions or guide you so don't hesitate to ask for help. > Don't waste too much time on what others are doing rather build something which reflects your values and has your essence because no one can take that away from any founder. > When things go wrong or go slow, stay calm. Know that it's happening for a reason and you can only take the right decision and turn things around when you are in a calm state of mind. > Stay true to your purpose, Keep doing your work with 100% honesty and focus and no one can stop you from making a positive dent in the universe. > Celebrate small victories and aim for bigger ones. > Don't react but reflect.

Success is not a moment in time, it’s a journey. And it requires sustained energy and motivation. What are your reasons for quitting a job or staying longer in a role? Mine have been oddly clear: 🚫 Lack of rewards? Not the reason. 🚫 Unfavorable location? Not the issue. 🚫 Challenging leadership? Not a problem. 🚫 Difficult year for the organization? Not a deterrent. My reason to stay longer or quit has been: ✅ Whether my work contributes to the larger goals of the organization? Yesterday was my 2nd anniversary in AB InBev! Cheers to a future with more cheers 🍻🍻🍻 Super grateful to my former director (former line manager at some point) Herman Franken (Dr.) for the push! I also got my first ever promotion in my career last month which was quite timely (just a month before my work anniversary). I’ve heard from different people how stagnant they’ve been on their roles at work, here’s how I avoided such: 1. Try to find better ways to work eg arrange or simplify your work files. 2. Get involved in work activities where you can learn new things and acquire new skills eg engaging in new projects. 3. Help your colleagues out with the little you can when they are overwhelmed or when they come to you knowing you are a SME (subject matter expert), truth is someday you might be in their shoes and might need some assistance. After all we share the same organizational goal. Remember, together we achieve more! 4. Take courses to get better with a skill or improve your knowledge and practice it eg managing a team or financial accounting. Trust me no knowledge is a waste. 5. Embrace new tasks outside your scope of work, you learn from it and it shows your line manager and colleagues that you have a growth mindset and you are ready for the next level. 6. Ask for help where necessary, it’s important so you don’t wear yourself out. Asking for help is part of growth and not bad. 7. Document your wins whether big or small.
