Puddle flanges (Contd...) What if Puddle Flanges are not used in pipe line? This is one of the good questions about why Puddle flanges are to be used. As mentioned, Puddle flanges absorb any shocks / vibration of RCC wall and restrict the same to be transmitted to the main pipe line. This help to avoid any deformation / damage to the said pipe lines. Also, alignment of the pipe line does not get affected. Additionally, the puddle plate supports to avoid fluid leakage from RCC wall from one side to another side. The plate increases travel path of fluid in capillary action which reduces chances of the leakage. #PuddleFLange Puddle Flange (Contd...) Puddle Flange Components: Pipe is a main body of the Puddle Flange and it remains in contact with the fluid which is to be transmitted from one side to the other. This pipe size depends upon the upcoming / existing piping sizes, mostly the same. Plate, also called Puddle Plate, is a non-contact part (of fluid) but very important element of the Puddle Flange. Puddle plate is used to absorb vibrations of the structure and avoid transmission of any impact on Pipeline. Any shock or vibration of RCC structure is firstly being applied on this plate. This plate try to absorb all the shocks on it and do not transmit any worse force on pipeline. This helps the pipe not to have deformation. Generally, engineers know about only this application of the plate. Another important application of the Puddle Palte is to avoid water leakage from fluid tank to outside. End flanges are optional based on requirements. Generally, it depends upon the requirements of connections i.e. the puddle required one side or both side connections. PT&P manufactured these F-type variable spring supports for a facility in Canada. The springs are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with a hot-dipped galvanized finish. The variables installed heights range from 11" to 15" and are designed for operating conditions up to 4,000 lbs. Bronzphite® is best suited for high loads, low-velocity applications and where the use of oil or grease is undesirable or not feasible. The bronze plate acts as the bearing surface, withstanding heavy loads, while the graphite inserts provide a solid, oil-free lubricant. Type F base springs are not typically designed for lateral loads, so slide plates such as Bronzphite® are employed to reduce the stress that could be imposed on the spring and pipeline by reducing the sliding friction between the spring’s load flange and the pipe shoe, trunnion or supporting steel. Also added to these springs are Internally Guided Load Columns which provide additional support for lateral loads. As with all of our variable supports, these were quality-checked with a 100% spring coil deflection test and a load cell calibration to set the assembly at the prescribed installed load.
