“On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce ‘Macintosh’. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like ‘1984’.” Today, I am celebrating 40 Years of the Apple “Mac” Macintosh and their legacy of innovation. 1984/01/24 - A date that changed the landscape of personal computing forever. I find myself reflecting on the journey of this iconic machine (that is still in a box in my storage and still turned on last I checked) and its impact on both my personal and professional life. Growing up with the Apple II, my mother introduced us to the world of technology at a young age. But, it was the Mac that truly captured my imagination. With its mind blowing GUI and compact design, the Mac wasn’t just a computer; it was a gateway to creativity and innovation (“Mmm, MacPaint”). It had a handle and I could carry it even as a kid. I’ve witnessed firsthand how the seeds of innovation planted by the Macintosh have grown into the technology landscape we navigate today. This machine didn’t just break the mold; it built a new one. It challenged the status quo and redefined what a personal computer could be. The Macintosh taught us that technology should not only be powerful but also accessible and user-friendly. It bridged the gap between people and technology, making it a tool for everyone - from the hobbyist working in their garage to the professional developing the next big thing in Silicon Valley. Jef Raskin and Steve Jobs made us understand the importance of intuitive, consumerized, and accessible technology for all. As we embrace the horizon of technology and futurism, it’s important to remember the roots from which our modern innovations grew. The Mac stands as a testament to the power of vision, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of simplicity. Today, I raise a glass (RRV Pinot) to the Apple Macintosh, a machine that not only changed the industry but also shaped my life. Here’s to 40 years of innovation, inspiration, and a legacy that continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible. 40 Years ago... the advert that launched the Apple Mac, and still one of the most remembered adverts from the American Super Bowl. The 60-second mini-film was shot in one week at a production cost of about $500,000. Two hundred extras were paid $125 a day to shave their heads, march in lock-step, and listen to Big Brother’s Stalinist gibberish. Shot in dark, blue-gray hues to evoke IBM’s Big Blue, the only splashes of colour were the bright red running shorts of the protagonist, an athletic young woman who sprints through the commercial carrying a sledgehammer, and Apple’s rainbow logo. The commercial never showed the actual computer, but ended with a tease: “On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like ‘1984.’” The start of a revolution in the desktop computer industry.... #apple #applemac #desktop #superbowl

Building something that changes the way people work and boosts their productivity is an amazing feeling. It's almost like giving them superpowers! It's reminiscent of Apple's Macintosh in 1984, creating something that levels the playing field, 2024 definitely won’t feel like “2024”. https://lnkd.in/ew_vTfj8 #membership #digitaltransformation #memberbase

On this day, 24th January, 1984 😲 It's been four decades since the Apple Macintosh, also known as the Macintosh 128K, first hit the market. It was the first personal computer to achieve widespread popularity and incorporate a graphical user interface, a built-in screen, and a mouse. The Macintosh played a significant role in establishing desktop publishing as a standard office function. The computer's motherboard, 9-inch CRT black and white monitor, and floppy drive were housed in a beige case with an integrated carrying handle. It also included a keyboard and single-button mouse. The Macintosh made its debut in a television commercial called "1984" during Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984. Directed by Ridley Scott, the commercial was a huge success. Sales of the Macintosh were robust at its initial launch on January 24, 1984, reaching 70,000 units on May 3, 1984. After the introduction of its successor, the Macintosh 512K, it was rebranded as the Macintosh 128K. The computer's model number was M0001. 🍏🖥️ #Apple #Macintosh128k #AppleMacintosh #AppleProducts #1984 #SteveJobs #AppleComputers

January 24 marks the 40th anniversary of Steve Jobs unveiling the Macintosh, the first successful mass-marketed computer with a graphical user interface. Forty years before Apple Vision Pro, practically to the day, Apple launched the Macintosh — and it eventually changed the world. Normally when someone wrote in a wordprocessor, and wanted to use bold or italics, they would use keystrokes to do it – and they wouldn’t see a representation of the effect on their screen. Instead they see something like this: Here is a word in ^Bbold^B and here is a word in ^Yitalics^Y. Control-Y for italics because Control-I was used for tab, obviously. You’d only get to see the actual type effects when you printed the document. Then came the "Macintosh" It smiled at you as it started-up. You didn’t have directory listings, you had images of folders. You didn’t type the name of an application or file to open it, you used this strange new thing called a mouse to double-click it. When you made a word bold, it appeared in bold on the screen. You had different typefaces! All of this may sound very normal to us now, but imagine back in 1980s. Last but not least, the 1984 Superbowl commercial that created a ripple in the stagnant market. #40YearsofMacintosh #Apple #Macintosh #Anniversary

Reflecting on the Discontinuation of the Macintosh XL and Its Lessons for Businesses On August 1, 1986, Apple discontinued the Macintosh XL, marking the end of the Apple Lisa computer platform. While this might seem like a blast from the past, it holds valuable lessons for today's business owners. Back in January 1985, while the Macintosh line was thriving, the Lisa struggled with sales. Apple's innovative response was to transform the Lisa 2/10 into the Macintosh XL, combining the best of both worlds. This hybrid machine ran the Macintosh operating system, allowing Apple to salvage and repurpose their advanced technology for greater success. The Lisa's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of adaptability and leveraging existing assets. While it didn't hit the market as intended, its technology laid the groundwork for future innovations. Apple’s strategic pivot with the Macintosh XL showcases how repurposing resources can lead to breakthroughs and continued growth. Today, we celebrate the pioneering spirit of the Lisa and the lessons it offers in resilience and innovation.
