Refinery Propane Fire: Valero McKee Key Winterization Safety Lessons that the facility should follow: - Effectively identify and address the risk of freeze-related hazards to piping and process equipment through Process Hazard Analyses PHA, Management of Change evaluations MOC, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews PSSR, and operating procedures. - Create and implement a winterization checklist to ensure that their plant and process systems are ready for cold weather. - Establish a formal, written freeze protection program. - Survey piping systems for dead legs and ensure they are properly isolated, removed, or winterized. - Systematically review process units, including infrequently used piping and equipment, to identify and mitigate freezing hazards. #REPORT API - American Petroleum Institute in association with the Liquid Energy Pipeline Association (LEPA) has released a report outlining the pipeline industry’s record of safety performance & commitment to tackling evolving challenges. The 2023 report shows that in the past five years, liquids pipeline safety has increased across several key performance indicators identified by federal and state regulators, industry operators, and public safety advocates. Based on data tracked and maintained by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) from 2019 to 2023 - The report shows: 📌Total pipeline incidents decreased 23% over the past five years, with 87 fewer incidents in 2023 compared to 2019, and liquids pipeline incidents impacting people or the environment decreased 7%. 📌Operations and maintenance incidents impacting people or the environment declined 54% between 2019 and 2023. 📌Total equipment failure incidents impacting people or the environment decreased 50% between 2019 and 2023. #oilamdgasindustry #pipelines #safety #safetyfirst
