I’ve been a bit down since we lost the World Cup Finals. It hurt as a fan. And then it hurt some more as a father.
But then these young boys are fighters, and with the never seen before kind of love and support they received in the following days, it became easier to process.
Then, the other day I came across this video. Mathew McConaughey, an actor I’ve always admired, might have just conveyed what a lot of us need to hear.
I’m not sure how many of you will watch this whole video - but I truly hope you do!
It’s a great little poem, and can mean so many different things all at once. I must have watched this video 8 to 10 times over, and literally, each time a different part of it struck a chord.
I really can’t pick my favourite part, but some of those lines are so powerful. And the beauty lies in how simply they’re communicated. But these takeaways are my favourite.

- Falling short isn’t a failure - it's just a plot twist in the journey we’re on.
- Ever been shut down and yet had the courage to keep pushing? That's resilience!
- Dark times? They don't signify the end. The sun may have set for now, but it's also prepping for yet another inspiring sunrise.
- In a world where your skills may be your superpower, we cannot discount the role of luck. We’ve got to be grateful for serendipity.
Watching this video almost felt like an unknown person from another part of the world reminding me that life goes on!
Life will always throw up some challenges, some dark times. But this poem is a great reminder to embrace spontaneity, and not take anything too seriously. Yourself included.
For me personally, it's mostly been through my life’s hardest times that I’ve discovered my best!
