“Is it as boring as it sounds🤔?” is a question I get asked whenever I tell somebody my occupation; I am a Document Controller. To give you some context, my morning routine looks a little like the below: - Wake up at 6.15am - Stumble to the bathroom with a half swollen eyelid, wondering why in the world my dog (Roo) looks ready to run a 10k when I can’t even open my eyes correctly. - Brush my teeth with shampoo, rinse my hair with Listerine. Realise I’ve messed it up, do it the other way around. - Hop down the stairs, feed Roo his biscuits. - Accidentally apply a full face of foundation, blusher and mascara to my partner. He is now wearing a dress and blazer ready to enter the world of Document Control. He looks confused. - Panic, apologise profusely and re-start the process. - Get in my car, likely sigh at a few people that overtake me, and arrive at my work carpark around 7:45am. Shortly after, I begin liaising with people from all walks of life, working on multiple eDMs, implementing trackers, producing work I leave happy with and controlling the flow of Documents in an industry I feel proud to be a part of. I get to work with design teams, manufacturers, suppliers, clients, contract managers and learn vast amounts of technical knowledge from internal departments I sit in meetings with. So, to summarise my answer to your question, NO, Document Control really ISN’T “as boring as it sounds”. It’s actually pretty cool. 😎

Any industries, it is really important to have skill to save soft copy/hard copy of filing documents in offices not only being professional in your specialized jobs. If you didn't keep documents properly, you're not able to find the Document File will be the first problem when you do Final Account issues, audit checks and other management. It's even worse for people who have just joined the office works initially. In my experiences, it happened to me before when I first worked as a Quantity Surveyor 6 years ago. After about a month, I regretted I didn't keep these properly when my file had disappeared. Now I realized keeping a file is also one of the skills. Especially in the case of redoing the work that was not handed over properly.... If the person who did it before had done it with a filing system that only he/she knew, the person who came after would get problems.

Career and Business Coach | Private Equity | Mandela Washington Fellow | 2023 TransUnion SA Rising Star Finalist | SA Forty Under 40 | Multi-Award Winning Entrepreneur.
While recently conducting recruitment for a Quantity Surveyor position, I noticed several recurring mistakes made by candidates during the application process: 1. Three candidates misspelled the company name in their application, indicating a lack of attention to detail. 2. Some candidates neglected to include a subject line in their email, while others simply attached their documents without any accompanying message. 3. Several candidates used unprofessional or inappropriate email addresses, such as "sweetpos," which can create a negative impression on recruiters. It's advisable to use your full name when creating an email address. 4. Many CVs were not tailored to the specific job applied for, with only brief mentions of relevant experience included in the cover email. 5. Some candidates submitted poorly written cover emails, including phrases like "I am desperate" or "I am willing to take anything," which can detract from their professional image. What else can you add?
