It's an aphorism worth keeping close, because our life is a battle both literally and figuratively. Today, you'll be fighting for your goal, fighting against impulses, fighting to be the person you want to be. So what are the attributes necessary to win these many wars? → Courage → Sacrifice → Fortitude → Discipline → Selflessness → Clearheadedness And which attributes lose wars? → Rashness → Weakness → Cowardice → Selfishness → Disorganisation → Overconfidence As in war, so these attributes matter in daily life. #dailystoic

During my time as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, I continuously pushed my Marines further than they thought they could go. Uchiwa ( fixed fans ) : Most widely used. You see at summer festivals or temples when Buddhist monks use as ceremonial fans. 2. Sensu ( folding fan ) : It usually made by bamboo covered with Japanese washi paper. Folding compactly, it is a great souvenir from Japan. 3. Gunbai (military leader's fan, sumo referee's fan) : A special type of paper fan. They were most commonly used for signalling by wartime commanders, who would manage the soldiers through their movements. A sumo referee also uses it. 📖 These fans also use for unique functions of paper fans like as a prop when dancing, as an advertising tool and as a cheering item.

Hannibal's emphasis on mobility was a hallmark of his strategy. He led a diverse army, comprised of soldiers from various ethnic backgrounds and combat styles, which made his forces highly adaptable to different situations. He often employed rapid marches and encirclement tactics, consistently keeping Roman forces on edge and preventing them from anticipating his movements. Rather than engaging in straightforward pitched battles, Hannibal's forces favored hit-and-run tactics, a persistent approach that gradually wore down the Romans. One of the most iconic elements of Hannibal's army was his utilization of war elephants. These colossal creatures, often stationed on the flanks, instilled fear and confusion on the battlefield. However, controlling these massive beasts proved to be a significant challenge, and their unpredictability added an element of chaos to his strategy. Hannibal also recognized the critical role of cavalry in his tactics. His Numidian and Iberian cavalry units were exceptional, displaying superior maneuverability and skill in outflanking and harassing Roman legions. These tactics disrupted the Roman formations and hindered their ability to establish cohesive lines. The Roman response to Hannibal's tactics involved a series of commanders, but one notable figure was Scipio Africanus. Scipio understood the dangers of directly confronting Hannibal and instead employed a more flexible approach. He leveraged the terrain to his advantage and gradually weakened the Carthaginian forces over time. In the 15th century, Japanese military commander Ashikaga Yoshimasa broke one of his cherished Chinese tea bowls. Disappointed with the crude repair it received, he urged Japanese craftsmen to find a more aesthetically pleasing method of restoration. This desire led to the creation of Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, transforming the once-broken item into something even more beautiful than it was before. The term literally means "to join with gold." Remarkably, these repaired pieces are often considered more valuable than those that were never broken. So, what does this tell us as individuals? Our lives are filled with fragility, setbacks, and unpredictability. Yet, embracing our flaws and the inherent fragility of life is key. You may feel broken now, believing that you’re finished. But, like a piece of Kintsugi, you are being refined for a better and more meaningful purpose. Just as Kintsugi turns broken pottery into a masterpiece, so too can you emerge stronger and more beautiful. Your late end Keep moving forward and keep winning.
