I'm Jake Fox. I'm the Managing Director of the JM Glendinning Group of companies. Ultimately, I look after some of the businesses that we have within JMG prior to us completing our management buyout in 2020. And I also look after some of our acquired businesses and some of the newer businesses that we set up over the last couple of years. The challenges that face the business that I look after are principally around lifting the businesses away from what drags people down on a day-to-day basis. Clearly we live in a highly regulated environment. The businesses that I run, the owners, the managers, the people, the staff, they all tend to be really, really good at looking after clients. If we can just allow those businesses to continue to do that, they'll look after their clients, their people will really enjoy themselves, those people will talk about us, that we're building momentum. That will attract new clients and we'll win and retain as many clients as we possibly can. So I can speak from experience here because prior to my current role, I was the MD of the Professional Risks business. So I've got first hand experience of the resources that you can tap into as an MD and ultimately I tap into those resources for my direct reports now. So that's the likes of our internal compliance team, HR accounts, client money. All of the background noise that has an impact on people being able to focus on what they're really, really good at: winning and retaining customers and clients. I think one thing that we're really good at is putting our people in an environment where they can do a fantastic job for our clients. And if we can achieve that and we've got people that are focused on delivering superb results, that allows people to grow their business. Their clients will talk about how good they are. Those clients will generate referrals. And the business will grow organically. It's not rocket science, but if we can allow our people just to do a fantastic job, that will drive the growth of the business fundamentally. And because we do such a good job of taking away the noise with central functions that we've got, our people genuinely can do a great job for our clients. So the other thing we focus on significantly in the JMG Group is data. We spend a lot of time with the MDs of our businesses, understanding how a business is performing and understanding how the key individuals in the business are performing and benchmarking those individuals against peers across the group. That allows us to understand where capacity is, where opportunity sits and where we can truly focus on driving organic growth. So we're looking to continue to recruit great people into our teams across the group. We're also looking to acquire like minded businesses that want to work with us within the group and fundamentally focus on continuing to drive our stellar organic growth. We're really proud of the organic growth rates that we drive across our businesses and long may that continue. And if we continue to do the right things, that will happen.
It is such a privilege to work within Jake’s world. He is an incredible mentor & boss and a truly great guy. His experience and insights have been invaluable in helping me grow our Lancashire bunsiness into what it is today.
I love my job so much, and not everyone can say that and I recognise how lucky that is.
Great stuff Jake Fox.... Great message on resource support and an even better one on the importance of data and the benefit it provides for growth. Looking forward to seeing what's next for JMG.

Richard Sanders shared with Paul Francis-Grey what sets Sullivan Street Partners apart in a recent GP profile for Actum Group, exploring how our willingness to go against the grain has led to many opportunities and success stories.
He explains how the firm’s people-centric ethos allows for a deep understanding of our portfolio companies and their respective sectors. Sullivan Street’s latest investment in UKAT: Private Addiction Rehabilitation & Mental Health Services showcases this in action as we built up our knowledge of the business from the inside out, developing strong relationships with the management team and ensuring that UKAT’s values are protected and enhanced.
Richard also discusses how Sullivan Street’s sector-agnostic approach and expertise in navigating complex transactions allows the firm to make meaningful transformation in spaces which others have overlooked. When acquiring Tivoli Group Limited, we recognised its inherent value in what others saw as a ‘difficult carve-out situation'. We find our opportunities in looking past the surface level.
It was a pleasure to catch up with Paul to discuss our unique strategy and the complexities that come with it!
