One thing that hasn't changed in the 25 years I've worked in Internal Comms? The desire for human connection. Don't talk about company values - share stories of employees and teams who are living them. Don't simply share updates on corporate strategy - highlight examples of teams that are contributing in meaningful ways. Don't talk about an acquisition - amplify stories of individual employees bridging the two companies' cultures. It's a simple concept but can make a massive difference in humanizing your communications.

Employee newsletters packed with facts and figures often get skimmed over, but stories? They stick. 🌟 Featuring real employees—whether it’s a success story, a project highlight, or a personal milestone—brings your content to life and boosts morale. When employees see themselves and their colleagues celebrated, it creates a deeper connection and engagement across the team. Really enjoyed attending this webinar yesterday! Here were my top takeaways: 1️⃣ Mostly text emails garner 7% more attention than image-heavy emails - headlines matter more than images 2️⃣ Sending to smaller, more targeted audiences leads to higher attention, readership and click rates 3️⃣ Emails sent earlier in the week perform better than those sent later in the week (despite Thursdays being the highest email volume days) Overall, some great insights into reaching employees more effectively. Some of these best practices were things my team is already doing, but it's always interesting to see the data behind it and how we can help our employees break through the information overload with smarter (not necessarily fewer) communications.
